(Lily is light) Chapter 5
I remained silent. After a while, I felt
tired and didn’t want to stay here anymore.
“It’s late, I’m going home.”
Trent got up to leave, but his friends
stopped him.
“Hey, just because Lily is going doesn‘
t mean you can go. I haven’t seen you in
ages, you must stay!”
“Yeah, Lily will be fine. You stay and
have fun with us, bro.”
I pulled my hand from Trent’s,
speaking calmly, “The driver will take me
home. Have fun.”
I turned and left.

Soon after the car pulled away, I felt a phone in my coat pocket. It was Trent’s.
I frowned and told the driver to turn
around.
The car stopped outside the bar, and I saw Vanessa getting out of a cab. She checked her makeup, and walked in
without looking around.
I instinctively gripped the phone, following her. She stopped at Trent’s box.
As soon as the door opened, Vanessa rushed into Trent’s arms. He hugged her
waist, affectionately stroking her
hair.“How did you get here so fast?”
Vanessa leaned against him, smiling
sweetly. “I missed you! I came as soon as I

got your call,”
Trent chuckled, “That’s my girl.” He kissed her lips, then their mouths locked together,
“Alright, alright, stop making out
here!”
His friends showed no surprise,
playfully teasing them.
Standing outside, watching through
the crack in the door, I felt a chill go down
my spine. Everyone knew about Vanessa.
They were all keeping it from me.
“Trent, now that Vanessa’s here, let’s
play some grown–up games!”
His friends grinned, clapping,. They
called the previous women back. Soon,

Their laughter bounced off the walls, but all I felt was cold and numb. My legs felt like lead. Like a ghost, I walked out without a thought.
The driver noticed my distress and offered to tell Trent, but I stopped him.
“Don’t take me home. I want to walk
alone. And don’t tell Trent I came back.”
I sent the driver away and walked alone on the deserted street. Suddenly, a
drenching rain poured down, but I felt
nothing. The cold rain made me even
clearer–headed.
I had no idea know how long I had
walked. Perhaps it was even longer than
the way Trent carried me home when I
