ASHANTI'S POV.

I shut my eyes close and suck in a deep breath, hoping that when I open them again, I won't see Alpha Reagan standing in front of me anymore because as it is now, I'd be more at ease with the fact that I've started seeing things than that he has come here to stop me from going on this date with Leonard.

Seconds later, my eyelids flutter open and the illuminated compound comes into view again and so does my mate, Alpha Reagan. I shoot Leonard a confused look before looking back at the man who has neither said a word nor taken a step away from where he is.

“Reagan.” I call in shock, caring less about adding his honorific title. I take a few steps towards him and so does Leonard, who must be wondering what the hell is going on here.

“Good evening to you, My Lord.” Leonard greets respectfully with a bow. Alpha Reagan replies his greeting with a dry nod and focuses his gaze back on me. He even has the audacity to smile.

“I can see you're all dressed up.” He remarks, eyeing me from my head to my toes with a smile of approval on his face. I suck in a deep breath and make sure to keep my chin high up.

If he's here to stop me from going out with Leonard, I won't accept it. I'm ready to have a full blown fight with him this evening.

“Yes.” I reply curtly. “Leonard is taking me out for dinner.” I say with a firm tone. I would have reached out for Leonard's hand right now if my heart wasn't beating so fast. If I had the audacity.

God, I hate that this man still has this effect on me.

If he tries to stop me from leaving with Leonard, I doubt I'll be able to object like I claimed a few seconds ago.

Calmly, he pushes himself off the car and takes two steps forward. My throat closes as he draws closer to me and soon, my lungs are filled with only his scent. His sweet, woody scent that travels to my head and upsets my brain cells.

“What… what…” I stutter like an idiot. “What are you doing here?” He grins and takes another step forward. My entire body tenses and I try to beat back the maddening nervousness enveloping in its embrace to no avail. I am a nervous pile of nonsense, standing before him. He reaches for my hair and that makes my heart soar and plummet at the same time.

“Ashanti.” He calls and pushes a few strands of hair behind my ear. That little contact between his fingers and the flesh of my ear makes my body vibrate like I've touched a life wire.

The soft chuckle he lets out makes me understand that he felt it.

He knows the effect he has on me.
