Into Hell
“Is something wrong?” Maren halted mid–step and turned her gaze to Morris.
“No, there’s nothing wrong,” Morris replied, unwilling to admit even the slightest hesitation.
He mentally reaffirmed his decision to stick by Maren and obey whatever orders she gave.
And so, without another word, they continued forward together.
Morris devoured his food with growing urgency, driven by the thought that if death awaited him, he’d at least
face it on a full stomach.
Far from the island, in the monitoring room, the panel of judges monitored every movement made by Maren’s
and Nadia’s teams.
While most teams were still scrambling for basic resources/like food and water, Maren’s and Nadia’s teams had already moved on to their next objectives.
Nadia’s team were feasting on roasted rabbits, each member clutching their portion with visible satisfaction. She had stumbled upon a rabbit hutch not long after they had split off, which held over a dozen rabbits. Their search didn’t stop there–they kept digging and uncovered even more.
The ones who had abandoned Nadia’s team earlier, all over a single rabbit, had intended to align themselves with Maren next. But they were turned away. When they saw how successful Nadia had become, they came crawling back.
Though Nadia hadn’t forgiven them and found their betrayal irritating, she understood that having extra hands gave her an edge over Maren, so she reluctantly took them back.
“Nadia, what’s your opinion on this?”
Her team, now well–fed and energized, began treating her with more admiration than they ever had before.
“Looks decent,” Nadia said, running her fingers across the surface of the stone one student brought her. Both sides were smooth, and one edge had been sharpened quite nicely. “All right, everyone! Once you’ve got your stone knives, start chopping. We need wood for a shelter before the sun goes down.”
“Got it!”
The team got to work with focused determination.
Hannah stayed behind to oversee the construction efforts just as Nadia had instructed, while Nadia and Wilbur led a handful of others to scout a place suitable for building the shelter.
Nadia’s strategy wasn’t all that different from Morris‘, but unlike him and Maren, she had a much larger team

hat was why she had accepted the ones who had left. They were put on the hardest duties. The loyal ones, ho had never left her side, got the easier tasks. This was how she taught them a lesson.
Jadia, what do you think about that area? There’s a small mountain behind it, which means we’ll be shielded om both the sun and the sea winds,” Wilbur said, pointing to the location he had in mind.
With summer drawing to a close, the midday heat still beat down harshly, but the air turned cold as evening rept in. The location was ideal.
No, Wilbur, we’re not going anywhere near that mountain.” Nadia dismissed the idea, her eyes narrowing with nease as she studied the looming rise ahead.
Vilbur stared at her, confused. “What’s wrong with it?”
Everything I’ve observed so far, from the shape of the land to the animals‘ behavior, leads to one conclusion- here are probably predators living nearby,” Nadia said, drawing from the knowledge she had carefully absorbed hrough her studies.
Their sightings of wildlife had sharply decreased as they moved through the area, a strong indicator that the local fauna were instinctively steering clear of the mountain.
With that in mind, Nadia selected a location just short of the slope, choosing this current stretch of ground for their shelter instead.
The area she picked stood slightly higher in elevation, while the mountain dipped lower into a valley on its far side. Because of that, despite being nearby, any creatures lurking in that direction wouldn’t be able to reach them easily.
Nadia had calculated it perfectly, by placing their camp just beyond the reach of whatever dangers lurked by the mountain, she was turning a threat into a protective barrier.,
“I see it now. That’s incredible thinking, Nadia,” Wilbur said, genuinely struck by her logic.
Lately, the spotlight had been shining almost entirely on Maren. He had overlooked the brilliance of the woman standing beside him.
Nadia was one of the top–ranking students at the Baimsa Royal Trinity.
And Wilbur wasn’t the only one who noticed. Even the judges observing from the control room began speaking up, voicing their admiration for Nadia’s strategy.
“Didn’t I say so before? She picked the exact right place. That’s my student; this is what I trained her for!” Gerald exclaimed proudly.
As soon as he saw where Nadia had chosen to set up camp, he immediately recognized the genius of her
decision.
“Absolutely remarkable. She acts with precision and clarity,” one of the judges said, nodding in agreement.
The praise only deepened Gerald’s sense of satisfaction. Compared to Maren, who appeared to be moving without clear direction, Nadia had already claimed a strong advantage.
“To be honest, there’s just no comparison right now. Nadia’s team is already getting their shelter up and

running. Meanwhile, Maren’s team, even with fewer members, hasn’t made a single move. The difference is
obvious.”
“We’ve tried to make sense of Maren’s plan, but at this point, it’s impossible to guess what she’s aiming for,” one of the judges added, his tone carrying reluctant resignation.
“Wait–look over there! Isn’t Maren heading towards that same mountain?” one of the observers suddenly said, pointing to the screen with urgency.
He reached into a drawer and pulled out the island’s map to double–check–and sure enough, Maren’s path was leading her straight in that direction.
“It’s confirmed! Both teams are positioned on opposite ends of the same mountain!” he announced.
The others leaned in, realization dawning on them all at once.
“So what? They were practically in the same area from the start.” Gerald waved it off, making light of the revelation. “Nadia chose the secure side of the mountain. Maren, on the other hand, is walking straight to a threat. She clearly lacks the foresight to sense danger when it’s right in front of her.”
To Gerald, this only reinforced what he already believed Nadia had once again proven herself the superior strategist.
Hearing Gerald speak triggered a memory for one of the other judges. “Wait a second–wasn’t there a large creature reported in one of the caves up that mountain?”
“Yeah, now that you mention it, I think you’re right.” The others began to recall the same detail.
If this goes on, Maren is going to walk straight into hell,” Gerald muttered.
