Chapter 24 The Same
Bracelet
Everyone turned sharply towards the sound, spotting Maren in the dining room.
Her laughter had cut through the excitement, leaving the crowd displeased.
Yet, Maren hadn’t meant to offend; containing her amusement was already her showing restraint.
“Maren, how can you say something like that? Where were you tonight?” Wilbur asked.
Earlier, Maren had left before everyone else and hadn’t been seen at the South Hill, which bothered Wilbur, who had intended to flaunt their evening’s experience in front of her.
“I just took a stroll,” Maren answered with a shrug.
“You were probably out causing trouble as usual! You never learn. Compare yourself to the woman racer today -what a stark contrast! Both women, yet worlds apart,” Bobby scolded, his disdain for Maren evident.
The group’s irritation with Maren grew, fueled by her dismissive laugh towards Nadia.
But Maren was unfazed by their criticism.
She had little interest in justifying herself or engaging in pointless disputes.
As she prepared to head back to her room, Nadia, the subject of Maren’s scorn, wasn’t prepared to let her leave so easily.
How could Maren, whom she saw as inferior, dare to mock her? Maren should be bowing her head in shame in her presence.
Nadia harbored these thoughts but voiced them differently. “It’s a pity you missed the race tonight, Maren. The female racer was not only outstanding but also a role model for what women can achieve in competitive arenas. Such a figure should be a role model, especially for girls like us who face constant public scrutiny. We must uphold our family’s dignity.”
She lingered on the phrase “uphold our family’s dignity,” her implication clear.
Maren folded her arms. “You think every woman should emulate her? Do you see yourself in her?”
Caught off guard, Nadia hesitated but quickly regained her composure. “I’m not yet her equal, but I’m determined to take inspiration from her. Accepting mediocrity would be a true disgrace.”
She stressed the words “mediocrity” and “disgrace.”
“Then take your time learning from her,” Maren retorted dryly, making her way upstairs.
Nadia’s frustration was evident. “Maren, shouldn’t you also aspire to learn from her?” She raised her voice.

Chapter 24 The Same Bracelet
Maren glanced back. “That’s your path. I have my own.”
What a joke! Racing was just one of her many skills, hardly her most notable. She didn’t see the need to focus
on it.
Nadia, however, perceived Maren’s dismissal as sheer arrogance.
“Maren, you’re too proud. Weren’t we always taught to be humble and avoid boasting? Have you completely
forgotten?”
“I guess so,” Wilbur chimed in, fueled by his irritation with Maren’s attitude. “Nadia, remember how she
challenged the dean just yesterday?”
He believed Maren was not interested in genuine self–improvement; her actions were just tactics to garner
attention.
His remark resonated with the others.
To them, Maren’s claims were typical, and they rarely took her seriously.
At that moment, William caught a glimpse of something on Maren. “Maren, what is that on your wrist?”
Prompted by his question, all eyes turned to Maren, now fixed on the bracelet adorning her right wrist.
“Why are you making a fuss about a bracelet?” Bobby asked, his voice tinged with disappointment.
