Laughter filled the classroom as everyone turned to look at Maren.

“Hannah, you can’t be serious! She’s the same person our instructors describe as utterly useless.”

“Right! Without the Morgan family name, she wouldn’t last a day here!”

“I’m not exaggerating. Remember her wild claim about taking on the dean?” Hannah stressed “wild” to

underscore her point.

Word of Maren’s audacious challenge at the academy’s square had already circulated widely within the

academy.

It wasn’t just their academy; students from neighboring academies were murmuring about it too.

A notorious underachiever stepping up to the dean?

Everyone agreed it was the most ridiculous, suicidal move they had ever heard.

Nadia’s annoyance was clear. Hannah sensed it and approached Maren aggressively, banging her hand on the desk. “Maren! Why don’t you say something?”

Maren glanced at Hannah’s hand on the desk before responding, “Didn’t you already make a statement on my behalf? I don’t see a need to add anything.”

“When have I ever done that?” Hannah was perplexed.

“Weren’t you the one who said I surpassed the female racer and even outshined Nadia? That was your claim, right?”

Hannah was taken aback.

Her words had been dripping with irony, yet Maren was now owning them as compliments.

The classroom erupted in disbelief. Maren’s audacity was beyond arrogance; it was downright shamelessness!

Nadia was seething more than anyone. To suggest that Maren was superior to her was one thing, but to

disrespect that female racer was utterly unacceptable.

“Maren, such remarks are unwise. If your abilities don’t measure up, perhaps you should concentrate on

honing them instead of flaunting nonexistent talents.” Nadia, who had been silent for a long time, couldn’t hold

back anymore.

“Oh, so you found your voice? I was starting to think you might stay silent forever,” Maren responded with a

hint of amusement.

She had already picked up on the stir before she even stepped into the classroom.

She wasn’t fooled like the others; she had effortlessly peeled away the layers of Nadia and Hannah’s theatrics.

Nadia’s expression hardened. The revelation that Maren had deciphered their act so quickly was shocking. How

had Maren, once deemed a non–threat, become so perceptive?

Hannah caught on to the shift and was instantly enraged. With their facade now exposed as mere theatrics, their efforts seemed laughable.
