Chapter 347 You Want Company
Sawyer took the seat beside Maren.
“Of course not. You’ve helped me more than you realize. I’m grateful for all your help.” Maren let out a soft laugh. She’d assumed Sawyer had already left Voutsas by now.
Considering she’d remained in the city for her own reasons, his continued presence felt almost too coincidental.
“I’m glad to hear that. So, is there anything else I can do for you?”
The past few days had changed something between them. Their shared experiences had pulled them closer in a way neither had expected, and Sawyer found himself enjoying the closeness more than he cared to admit.
Always being separated wouldn’t do their relationship any good. On top of that, having spent so much time with Maren lately had made Sawyer crave her presence whenever she wasn’t around. He understood her nature -she was not the type to reach out first. So rather than sit back and wait, he chose to step forward and make more chances to be near her.
“There’s nothing urgent at the moment. I just haven’t decided how to deal with the Williams family yet,” Maren said after a moment.
The sudden strike she’d launched on the Williams family’s military base was already making waves. No doubt the news had reached them by now–and with it, a heavy dose of caution.
If nothing else, the ambush had bought her some time. It was unlikely they’d make a reckless move anytime
soon.
Still, Maren couldn’t keep dragging this out. Too many things demanded her attention, and she didn’t have the
luxury to entertain a drawn–out standoff with them. What she needed was a final blow–something that would
end the Williams family for good.
“The Williams family holds their base in Fleotho and maintains direct control over the entire state. From where we are now, there’s hardly any opening for us to strike at them,” said Sawyer, his keen mind instantly picking up on what was troubling Maren.
“That’s what makes this so frustrating. But ignoring them isn’t an option.”
It wasn’t just a matter of whether the Williams family might play dirty. Maren had already gained control of Voutsas, and with Baimsa now under her influence too, she held power over a large portion of Slatinia. Sooner or later, she would have to push her reach beyond Slatinia’s borders.
The issue was that the two neighboring states were mostly under the Williams family’s grip.
A clash between her and the Williams family was bound to happen.

Chapter 347 You Want Company
With the Williams family holding control over one and a half states, their wealth and resources gave them a clear advantage, allowing them to grow much faster than Maren’s forces. In other words, the more she stalled, the more the gap in power would widen.
Letting the Williams family grow any stronger simply wasn’t an option.
The Williams family had already carved out a stronghold in Criala, controlling more than half the area. There was no chance they’d just walk away from Slatinia.
To Maren, wiping them out wasn’t just a goal–it was a necessity, and one that couldn’t wait.
While her mind raced through possibilities for her next move, her phone buzzed with a message from a
number she didn’t recognize.
One glance at the screen, and a sly grin began to form at the corner of her mouth.
Whoever sent it hadn’t even tried to hide his identity.
“What’s happening?” Sawyer asked, catching the change in Maren’s expression–from anxious to a strangely amused smirk. He looked over at her phone and caught sight of the message. “He’s claiming to be Shawn Williams? And he’s asking you to marry him?”
Rage surged through him before he even finished the sentence. Just the thought of Shawn aiming for Maren
made his blood boil.
Maren’s smirk deepened. “Looks like Shawn thinks I’m just some trophy he can win over. He just walked straight into a trap of his own making.”
For days, she’d been looking for the right moment to strike. And just like that, he’d gifted her one. The arrogance in that message said it all–he thought she was the kind of woman who’d abandon everything for a
taste of power.
Clearly, the Williams family had discovered something about her. That message wasn’t random.
“After taking a string of losses trying to go against me, they’re too afraid to face me directly. So now, they’re treating me like the soft spot, hoping to rope me in and turn me against the Marshall family,” Maren said, reading between the lines of Shawn’s message.
One part stood out more than the rest. It said, “You’re obviously someone who aims high. Staying with the Marshall family will only drag you down.”
That told her everything she needed to know. Shawn had finally realized what she was capable of. He thought her vision couldn’t possibly fit within the limits of the Marshall family.
And in some ways, he wasn’t wrong.
Maren had never planned to stop with just Voutsas or Slatinia. Her ambitions had always stretched far beyo that. The power she built piece by piece was never meant to serve someone else’s legacy–it was meant to build
her own.
So Shawn dangled the title of the Williams family’s mistress in front of Maren as bait.
What he failed to realize, though, was just how far off the mark he really was. Maren didn’t just dream beyond the Marshall family. She had her sights set far past anything they could offer. For someone like her, their so-
