“Morris, can Maren even be real? Where is she firing from?”
The teammates turned to Morris, their faces etched with fear, seeking direction.
Fear had gripped them all.
They anticipated that the next bullet could appear out of thin air and take one of them down.
“Keep it together and stay cool!” Morris shouted, his voice betraying his nervousness as sweat beaded on his
brow. He was aware that the gunfire was nearby, but Maren remained unseen.
It was no surprise that his team considered Maren almost ghostlike.
“Keep your heads, everyone! Stick together and don’t spread out. She’s got to be close. Let’s find her!” Morris
instructed.
Convinced of their victory once they pinpointed Maren, Morris counted on their greater numbers to overcome her uncanny ability.
His team started a methodical search, cautiously inspecting each bush, tree, and stone, vigilant of every shadow
and movement.
For a moment, as Maren ceased fire, a brief respite washed over Morris and his team.
Unbeknownst to them, Maren was simply biding her time, waiting for more targets to gather.
“What are you guys up to?” As Hannah arrived with a dozen allies, her eyes were set on revenge against Maren, yet she stumbled upon Morris‘ team in a state of anxious search.
Morris looked at Hannah warily. He eased somewhat as Hannah came closer without aggression. He explained,
“We’re on the hunt for Maren. She’s eluding us brilliantly. We’ve lost several team members already.”
Hannah’s mood soured. Disdain for Maren was clear in her respon that nobody, Maren. It’s disgraceful.”

“All of you are
incompetent! Losing to
However, Morris interjected with a diplomatic grin, “Why not team up with us then? Show us how it’s done.”
Preferring to avoid further conflict, Morris considered their combined strength–now over twenty people-
sufficient to corner Maren.
Morris was determined to dispel the ludicrous myths about Maren after today.
He even considered Maren more skilled than Wilbur and Nadia.

Earlier, facing Wilbur’s group hadn’t tested him as severely, despite their numerical superiority.
Respecting her own pride and recognizing Morris‘ openness to collaboration, Hannah ceased her complaints and joined the collective effort, eager for vindication.
Initially confident, she quickly encountered the same challenges as Morris.
Abruptly, a gunshot echoed.
“Stay alert, everyone!” Morris cried out, still shaken from Mare,
His squad hit the deck at once.
Puzzled, Hannah’s group did the same.
Silence.
previous assaults..
All of them lay motionless, barely breathing, ears

Eventually, Morris got to his feet to check for any casualties. “T
anyone hurt?”
“No, it looks like she didn’t hit anyone this time,” replied a teammate, his voice tinged with doubt.
Morris’s brow furrowed.
Missed?
They had been well–concealed before and yet had been picked off one by one. Now, out in the open, how could she miss?
Skeptical, Morris conducted a check himself.
Much to his annoyance, it appeared none of his teammates were wounded.
“Did she miss her target?” Morris pondered.
“Is this a joke? All of you petrified by one measly shot from Maren?” Hannah reprimand them sharply.
Given the size of their group, their fear seemed unreasonable.
