Chapter 37 A Horror Film

The atmosphere had all the makings of a horror film.

“Morris, can Maren even be real? Where is she firing from?”

The teammates turned to Morris, their faces etched with fear, seeking direction.

Fear had gripped them all.

They anticipated that the next bullet could appear out of thin air and take one of them down.

“Keep it together and stay cool!” Morris shouted, his voice betraying his nervousness as sweat beaded on his

brow. He was aware that the gunfire was nearby, but Maren remained unseen.

It was no surprise that his team considered Maren almost ghostlike.

“Keep your heads, everyone! Stick together and don’t spread out. She’s got to be close. Let’s find her!” Morris

instructed.

Convinced of their victory once they pinpointed Maren, Morris counted on their greater numbers to overcome her uncanny ability.

His team started a methodical search, cautiously inspecting each bush, tree, and stone, vigilant of every shadow

and movement.

For a moment, as Maren ceased fire, a brief respite washed over Morris and his team.

Unbeknownst to them, Maren was simply biding her time, waiting for more targets to gather.

“What are you guys up to?” As Hannah arrived with a dozen allies, her eyes were set on revenge against Maren, yet she stumbled upon Morris‘ team in a state of anxious search.

Morris looked at Hannah warily. He eased somewhat as Hannah came closer without aggression. He explained,

“We’re on the hunt for Maren. She’s eluding us brilliantly. We’ve lost several team members already.”

Hannah’s mood soured. Disdain for Maren was clear in her respon that nobody, Maren. It’s disgraceful.”
