Chapter 68 Gunfight (Part One)
Clutching her dagger tightly, Maren silently shifted her path through the forest.
Tyler had met his end. Yet, his remaining men were scattered through the woods, and she intended to ensure none would escape with their lives.
The forest soon resounded with screams from multiple directions.
At the Angels of Death’s camp, Scorpion had just made his way back with his team.
“We lost Stormclaw again!”
Scorpion, who was both thin and youthful, bore a scar from his left cheek to his mouth that gave him an intimidating appearance beyond his twenty years.
“What about that useless Tyler?” Scorpion asked, showing not a trace of respect as he spat out the name with disdain.
No response came to his calls for Tyler. Silence hung over the camp.
“There’s a body over here!” yelled one of his men, discovering a deceased man near the pavilion, taken down by Maren’s shot.
Alerted by the call, Scorpion quickly moved to the location, his frown deepening as he took in the scene of scattered corpses.
Clearly, an assault had occurred here.
“Could the weapons have already been moved?” asked one of them.
The men, devoted members of the Angels of Death, had great respect for Scorpion’s strategic awareness.
Scorpion didn’t immediately reply as he surveyed the scene.
He leaned over a fallen body, carefully extracting a sniper bullet with practiced ease.
“Given the westward positioning of these bodies, our assailant attacked from that direction. The warmth of the corpses suggests a recent attack. These sniper rounds suggest long–range engagement. The perpetrator can’t be far.”
Relying on his extensive combat knowledge, Scorpion pieced together the clues swiftly.
“Come with me, we need to chase them down!”

“Understood!”
They progressed in the direction where Maren was last seen and soon arrived at the forest’s boundary.
“Hold up.”
Right as the team was about to push forward into the woods, Scorpion called a halt.
“Is there a problem?”
Scorpion peered into the thick foliage. “Stay here. I’m going in by myself.”
“Why?” His squad was taken aback. “There’s still no sign of Tyler. We need to go find him.”
“He’s as good as dead if he’s in there, and you’ll meet the same fate if you try to find him.” Scorpion scanned
the thick underbrush, internally scolding Tyler for his recklessness.
“Has Tyler been killed?”
“Are you actually being serious right now?”
A wave of anxiety swept through the group, concerned about the implications of reporting Tyler’s likely death
back to their leader.
Scorpion didn’t answer, his thoughts already shifting to the formidable enemy concealed within the forest.
This was an opponent who had masterfully used the natural environment to overcome superior numbers.
That was interesting.
Still, he shrugged it off as merely a tactical trick.
“Pass me a sniper rifle!”
Reflecting on Maren’s choice of weapon, Scorpion grabbed a sniper rifle from his nearest man.
Determined, he made his way alone into the forest, eager to confront the challenge directly.
“Stormclaw, such a celebrated figure, and for what? After all these years, this is your skills? Now, let’s find out if your ally is just as overrated.”
Scorpion, ever so smug, laced his words with disdain whenever he referred to Stormclaw.
He climbed effortlessly into a grand tree, closed his eyes, and allowed the sounds of the forest to envelop him.
A sudden scream cut through the silence. The source was to the southwest.
“Found you.” Scorpion was grinning like a predator who had just spotted its prey.
Darting through the foliage with the ease of a skilled acrobat, he made quick progress towards the southwest.
High among the branches, Scorpion had a clear view of the surrounding below.
“Indeed, he’s dead.“.
Upon reaching his lookout, the sight that greeted him was Tyler’s lifeless body.
However, what truly his
attention was not merely the corpse.

The name carved into Tyler’s forehead and a familiar bracelet made him pause.
Scorpion murmured, “It’s you.”
His journey to Baimsa was driven by a mission–Marcus‘ unexpected death demanded swift retribution from the Sovereign Underworld to safeguard their formidable reputation.
Despite the full deployment of the Angels of Death, they had yet to find
any
leads.
However, in an unexpected turn, the target now presented himself to Scorpion.
“Excellent. If Tyler’s unfortunate end can draw out this high–value target, then his death has not been in vain,” Scorpion said, as he reached out to his team positioned just outside the forest.
He issued commands for more troops and a complete lockdown of the forest. His goal was personal: to confront and eliminate the enemy himself.
He picked up his pace, excitement shimmering in his eyes.
Over the past three years, he had emerged as the most formidable newcomer within the Sovereign Underworld.
He had successfully undertaken many dangerous missions internationally, earning him high regard and recognition.
He had outmatched many skilled veterans of the gang, including Marcus, reinforcing his belief that Stormclaw posed no real challenge.
“Intelligence reports suggest that the female racer is relatively young. I’ll show her what real talent looks like.”
Simultaneously, Maren took down the last member of the Angels of Death.
“Simon was supposed to have finished this already.”
After drawing all her enemies into the forest, Maren left none alive; her strategy had worked perfectly.
Now, her only task was to meet up with the Onyx.
“Hold on, I hear someone.”
While preparing to exit, Maren detected the sound of footsteps.
These weren’t ordinary footsteps on the forest floor, though.
The sounds originated from above, echoing through the branches.
Without hesitation, Maren retrieved her sniper rifle from its sling and quickly took cover behind a large tree trunk, ensuring she remained hidden and alert.
The individual approaching held a tactical advantage from above. Taking cover in the underbrush would have left Maren dangerously exposed,
Moments later, Scorpion arrived.
He meticulously searched the woods, places where someone might conceal themselves.
