Scorpion didn’t see anyone concealed nearby, yet he was sure someone was lurking.

The scream he had just heard was unmistakable.

It must mean he had been detected.

“If you’re adept at concealing yourself, let’s find out who’s good at hiding.” Scorpion, a veteran of jungle warfare training, couldn’t fathom being outmaneuvered in such an environment.

Once sure the trees were empty, he descended into the thick underbrush, his weapon ready.

The dense foliage obscured visibility, leaving only sounds to guide him.

At the slightest rustle, Maren didn’t hesitate, firing towards the noise emanating from the bushes.

“Ah!”

A cry of pain echoed in response.

However, Maren’s face did not betray any emotion as she nonchalantly kicked a stone into the brush.

As the stone hit the bushes, it produced a distinct rustling noise.

Immediately, a bullet struck exactly where the stone had disturbed the foliage.

“Quite impressive, isn’t it?”

From the shadows, Scorpion’s voice echoed, mixed with hints of surprise and respect.

Just before, he had simulated a scream to trick Maren into showing her location.

But to his astonishment, she had effortlessly seen through his ruse.

“Not too shabby for a woman. Yet, you’re still no match for me. You never really stood a chance.”

Maren did not respond to Scorpion’s provocations or aim her weapon in his direction.

Understanding that Scorpion’s vocalization meant he was securely hidden, she knew better than to fire

aimlessly.

Likely, he was concealed behind a tree, much as she was.

Testing Maren’s accuracy, Scorpion skillfully threw a small stone straight up, making sure it didn’t rustle any

leaves.

Maren, with steady calm, lifted her rifle and intercepted the stone in mid–flight, without a moment’s pause.

“Your shooting is impeccable. If we weren’t enemies, I’d be intrigued by you. You are the genuine article, just as I am,” Scorpion said, his admiration clear.

They stood quite a distance apart, the stone Scorpion had been thrown was small, nearly invisible to the naked eye. Yet, Maren’s shot was flawlessly on target.

Finally, Scorpion realized the extent of Maren’s skill in executing Marcus without detection.

Maren was not merely proficient. She ranked among the elite.

“You call me a genius. But I don’t think you are one.”

Maren smirked. She turned on her phone’s voice recorder and took a shot towards the area where the stone had been thrown.

Her bullet struck a large boulder, which was Scorpion’s chosen hiding spot. He was concealed behind it.

“Is that so? I may have to retract my earlier praise. Attempting to shoot me from that distance? Quite pitiful,” Scorpion retorted, as he shot back at Maren.

His bullet hit the tree concealing her.

Now, each had located the other by the sound of gunfire.

Maren stopped the recording. “Neither of us can defeat the other. Why prolong this standoff?”

“Who told you I can’t bring you down? I’ve already had my men encircle the forest. The more we drag this out, the more it favors me. Time is on my side, not yours.”

Scorpion was certain he was in a dominant position.

In fact, if Maren moved from her cover, he would easily target her.

A single shot could end it.

While Maren was equally capable of a lethal shot, Scorpion was content to wait, knowing his backup would

soon have her cornered.

He was confident in his impending victory.

Maren remained silent. Instead of responding, she continued her recording and started to discharge her firearm

randomly.

First one shot, then another, followed by more…

Continuously, Maren fired.

With each shot, she shifted her aim.

Scorpion could hear all the gunfire, yet none of the bullets approached his location.

“Are you losing your mind with fear? Once your ammunition runs out, you’re finished.”
