Chapter 84 The Years Of Being Trafficked
It was still early. Maren had intended to deal with her stalkers early today, yet it appeared there was no urgency now.
ade, deal
Once done freshening up, she made her way downstairs for breakfast.
What Maren didn’t expect was to find a guest so early in the morning.
Wilbur.
Having spent a restless night after seeing Maren with Sawyer, Wilbur arrived early, seeking explanations.
But when Wilbur heard Maren was still asleep, he surprisingly held back from waking her.
“May, you’re awake. I brought breakfast for you,” Wilbur said enthusiastically as he approached her.
Today, he was dressed in a finely tailored suit, confident his polished look would impress.
He offered the breakfast to Maren.
In the past, it was Maren who often brought him breakfast, which he mostly discarded. Even a single bite from
him would make her day.

With the tables turned, Wilbur figured the gesture would move Maren this time.
Unfortunately, he was completely mistaken.
Maren ignored the gesture entirely, heading straight to the kitchen to eat what the maid had prepared.
On a nearby sofa, Nadia seethed with quiet fury.
Hearing of Wilbur’s visit, she had thought he was here for her. But he was here for Maren.
She masked her anger, knowing well that displeasing Wilbur was not in her interest.
Her frustration was evident.
Although Maren gave him the cold shoulder, it didn’t shake Wilbur one bit–he remained completely unfazed.
He hadn’t come to stir up trouble he had only intended to clear a few things up. But the moment he arrived, he bumped into Ashton and learned about Maren’s plan to reclaim her shares. That was when it hit him–the Thorpe family still owed her ten percent.
Getting on Maren’s bad side now would be a disaster, so before she even showed up, Wilbur made sure to rein
himself in.
“May… um, Maren, who was that man with you at the gym yesterday? What’s his name?”

<Chapter 84 The Years Of Being Trafficked
This time, Wilbur kept a careful distance, worried that any familiarity might drive Maren away again.
Yesterday, he had exhausted his resources trying to uncover details about Sawyer but found nothing.
It was like the guy didn’t exist.
It didn’t make sense to Wilbur. The Thorpe family might not be as influential as the Morgan family, but they weren’t so powerless that they couldn’t dig into a single man’s background.
“Why? Are you interested in him?” Maren responded, her interest piqued only because the conversation had
turned to Sawyer.
“It’s not that I’m interested–I’m just worried someone might be taking advantage of you. There are too many liars out there these days,” Wilbur said, putting on a show of concern.
Behind his pretense, he intended to confront Sawyer, hoping to intimidate him into staying away from Maren.
Additionally, he was curious about how Maren managed to defeat Daniel and graduate from the academy.
Could there be an untold part of her story? Perhaps a clever strategy she used?
Maren, however, was not swayed by his concern. She doubted Wilbur’s sincerity and chose not to disclose
anything about Sawyer, instead focusing on her meal.
Getting ignored again didn’t shake Wilbur. He kept his cool and continued, “Maren, how did you suddenly get
so good at fighting? When did you pick up those skills–was it while you went missing?”
He’d known Maren his whole life, except for that stretch of time when she had disappeared.
Maren froze for a second. Those years had indeed changed everything for her.
Wilbur noticed her slight reaction, confirming his suspicions.
Nadia, still perched on the sofa, caught this subtle exchange as well.
“Maren, is that when you got involved with the underworld?” Nadia chimed in, feigning astonishment as she
approached Maren.
“Nadia, you’re aware of this?” Wilbur asked.
Nadia shook her head. “Think about it, Wilbur. Maren was gone for years. How do you think she survived? In
a world like that, with her looks, she must’ve gone through hell.”
She pretended to be clueless, but every word out of her mouth was aimed at smearing Maren’s name.
