In the command center of the Angels of Death, Brooks leapt from his chair, his voice booming into the walkie- talkie.

The sound of gunfire from Kenny’s direction had reached him. Kenny wouldn’t have shot without a clear target or specific commands.

The worst part was the scream. Brooks unmistakably heard Kenny cry out in agony,

Clearly, there was someone else there.

While Brooks tensed, expecting a reply from Kenny, another shot echoed from the walkie–talkie.

Moments later, a voice that sent a shiver down his spine came.through.

“Have you considered what happens if you fail to kill me?” After taking Kenny down, Maren grabbed the walkie -talkie and spoke straight to Brooks.

“Shit!” The moment Brooks heard her voice, his knees buckled, and he hit the floor hard. There was no mistaking it–Maren.

That meant Kenny was dead.

“How did you manage to locate Kenny?” Brooks asked, his voice filled with fear.

Kenny was supposed to be his ace, the hidden weapon he’d been counting on. And just like that, he was gone.

Brooks realized then just how outclassed he was by Maren. His schemes paled in comparison to her capabilities.

Maren had effortlessly unraveled his plots as if they were child’s play.

“Do you really think your plans were clever?” she asked.

What Brooks didn’t realize was that his tactics were laughably simple compared to the intense training Maren went through with the Sovereign Underworld–not to mention everything she’d picked up around the world.

Brooks remained silent, overwhelmed.

It all made sense now. Maren had cleverly used the phone recording as a diversion to quietly locate and confront Kenny.

“Perhaps there’s been some confusion. We were merely executing orders from the Sovereign Underworld.” Brooks attempted to defuse the situation with excuses.

Most of his people had been sent way down the road to hunt for Maren. By the time she circled back, Kenny was the only one left, and now he was gone. With nothing in her way, she could walk out any time she wanted. And if she did, Brooks knew she’d come for him.

“So what you’re saying is, after I took out Scorpion, the Sovereign Underworld ordered you to eliminate me?” Settling into a chair, Maren casually spoke into the walkie–talkie.

Brooks was a bit embarrassed. He could hear the sarcasm in Maren’s words.

Once Marcus was out of the picture, the Sovereign Underworld clearly lost faith in the Angels of Death. They were given one job–gather intel. It was Scorpion, far more skilled, who was sent in to lead, with the others. just backing him up. It was plain to see–they were never really trusted to take Maren out.

If they weren’t trusted to succeed, why would they be given the kill order in the first place?

“I’m not entirely sure why. It was my father’s decision. He told me that the Sovereign Underworld wanted you. eliminated, and I was merely following orders.”

When blaming the Sovereign Underworld proved ineffective, Brooks quickly redirected the blame to his father.

It was his father who gave the order, and Brooks followed it without a word of protest.

“You really think blaming your father will make me go after him and let you off the hook?” Maren caught on instantly.

“I’m not trying to shift the blame. I fully own up to what I did. It might’ve been my father’s idea, but I went along with it–I didn’t stop him. That means I’m just as guilty.”

Brooks acted like he was taking responsibility, but Maren could see right through it–he was only trying to pin it all on Tucker to protect himself.

He was desperate to find a way out.

As she listened, Maren couldn’t help but feel like she’d heard it all before–this kind of talk was nothing new,

Suddenly, it dawned on her. “You remind me of someone I once knew.”

“Really?” Brooks suddenly felt a spark of hope, believing he might just survive this ordeal. “Could you spare me for the sake of that old friend? I promise not to go against you ever again!”

“Sending so many top–tier fighters must mean the person behind this is in charge of the Angels of Death. This guy mentioned his father, which suggests he’s another son of Tucker’s?”

Previously, Maren had eliminated Tyler. Now, this guy was marked for elimination as well.

And Tucker was also in Maren’s sights. She fully intended to take down every leader.
