“You’ve helped enough.” Maren had already come up with a plan and could carry it out alone. Sawyer’s easygoing nature left her feeling indebted to him.

“Can you locate their sniper?” Sawyer asked, his tone tinged with concern.

With a raised eyebrow, Maren asked, “Are you questioning my abilities?”

“Of course not.”

When it came to Maren’s abilities, Sawyer never doubted her–especially not against a low–level street gang. His concern wasn’t based on reason. It was just a gut reaction.

At times, he wished he could protect her.

Now that she was without the support of the Sovereign Underworld, he was ready to step in as her safeguard.

However, he understood Maren too well to know she would never accept such protection willingly.

“So, what’s bothering you?” Maren asked.

“It’s nothing,” Sawyer responded casually, leaving Maren puzzled. Nonetheless, she had bigger things to deal

with and didn’t have time to stick around for more talk.

“I need to leave now.”

Maren’s main goal that day had been to get her shares back, but this unexpected fight had thrown her plans

off track.

“What’s your approach with all those men outside?”

Maren’s calmness caught Sawyer’s attention–she seemed far too relaxed.

With the enemies spread out all over, slipping out without being seen looked impossible.

To make matters worse, the sniper’s location was still unknown. Stepping into the open could mean taking a bullet straight to the head.

“That’s easy.”

Maren took out her phone, recorded a moment of silence, turned the volume up to the maximum, and threw it across to the opposite building.

After moments of peace, a burst of gunfire erupted from the phone.

Just from the sound, Sawyer identified it as a sniper rifle.

The shots immediately drew the focus of every nearby thug.

Even Kenny shifted his attention to that location, aware that the enemy possessing a sniper rifle posed a significant threat.

“Encircle that building! Now!” Brooks commanded without hesitation.

Members of the Angels of Death rushed towards the building, quickly blocking every possible exit.

A squad burst through the door and stormed inside.

Meanwhile, the disturbance pulled the guards from near Maren’s location, creating an ideal opportunity for her to slip out.

The audio she used was the same one from her encounter with Scorpion, which she hadn’t erased.

Once free, Maren quickly backtracked the route she had taken earlier, calculating the likely position of the sniper.

As Maren moved through the shadows, Brooks/was busy organizing his next move. It hit him hard when his team burst into the building and found nothing but a tossed–aside phone–they’d been tricked.

“Damn, she’s cunning! Regroup and secure the exits. Don’t let them slip through!” Brooks quickly issued commands before contacting Kenny. “Kenny, do you have eyes on them?”

“Nothing yet.” Caught off guard by the previous gunfire, Kenny had been too slow to react. Even after a thorough scan with his scope, everything seemed normal. “She can’t have gone far. I suspect she’s hiding out in a tight spot,”

No matter how alert he was, Kenny hadn’t caught a single glimpse of Maren. The thought that she might’ve gotten past him without being seen/was tough to swallow.
