I couldn't even imagine how devastated Kayla would be, up there in heaven, if she knew that her most treasured belongings had been thrown away.
She was always so quick to burst into tears. After just one tear fell, I'd be worrying about her for hours.
And now, even after her death, she was being disrespected by the gigolo Abigail kept around.
Joshua looked at my rage with a mocking smile, shrugging his shoulders with false innocence. "I did it for you and Abigail's sake, you know. She's dead, Samuel. What's the point of keeping her things around? It's just bad luck."
Hearing him toss around "bad luck" like that made my blood boil. My entire body shook with fury.
I couldn't take any more of his insults toward Kayla. I threw a punch that knocked him to the floor, then climbed on top of him and began pummeling him, left and right, over and over.
My fists were bleeding, but I didn't feel a thing.
"Stop! Stop! Don't hit me anymore! If you mess up my face, how am I supposed to be on camera?" Joshua struggled beneath me, but he was no match for the surge of adrenaline fueling my every swing.
Blood trickled down his nose and mouth, splattering onto the floor. The metallic scent of blood filled the air.
Just then, the door swung open, and a shocked voice cried out.
"Samuel, stop! What are you doing?"
Abigail rushed in, looking horrified, and threw herself down beside Joshua, shoving me away.
I fell back onto the floor, panting heavily, my eyes locked on Joshua, filled with a hatred that could have swallowed him whole.
"Abigail… you're here…" Joshua whimpered, collapsing into her arms.
His face was swollen and bruised from my punches, and he clung to her, sniffling pathetically. "If you hadn't come to save me, Samuel would've beaten me to death…"
Abigail was beside herself with worry as she held Joshua close, then shot me a glare sharp as a knife.
