"Are you deaf?" I snapped, glaring at Joshua, my tone leaving no room for argument.

Joshua froze, stunned by my outburst.

"You want me to go pick up a dead person's stuff?" he asked, looking back at Abigail with a pout, whining, "Abigail, look at how he's treating me!"

Abigail hesitated, glancing at me before speaking seriously. "Samuel, I think Joshua has a point. The dead are gone, and the living need to move on.

"Since the things were already thrown out, what's the point of going back to get them? They're probably in a garbage truck by now. Aren't you just making things difficult for Joshua?"

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Even after knowing Joshua had thrown out Kayla's belongings, Abigail was still defending him.

Faced with a choice between the girl who once saved her life and her favorite little lover, she chose him without a second thought. The realization sent a chill straight through me.

My eyes burned as I looked at her, my voice cold. "Easy for you to say. Those were Kayla's things. No one has the right to make decisions about them but me."

"You…" Abigail stared at me, shocked as if she couldn't believe I was standing my ground.

With a loud crash, she kicked over the chair in front of me, her expression icy. "Samuel, I haven't even dealt with you for messing up Joshua's face. You'd better not start causing trouble. Do you hear me?"

I let out a bitter laugh and nodded. "Oh? And how exactly do you plan to 'deal' with me?"

Before Abigail could respond, Joshua spoke up, feigning a wounded expression. "Samuel, if I went to the police and filed for an injury assessment, you'd likely face jail time for assault!

"But I don't want to cause trouble between you and Abigail, so even though you hit me, I won't hold it against you. Let's just call it even."
