Cyra

I can’t breathe. I swear Alpha Leo kept us late in class just so I wouldn’t be able to say goodbye to Yorick. I raced to his room, throwing the door open, only to see everything gone.

“It’s going to be okay, Cyra,” Piper says, a moment before her arm goes around me.

“How? How is it going to be okay?”

It feels like my entire world is about to collapse. He’s gone. He’s gone and I didn’t even get to say goodbye. What if I never see him again?

“Come on, Aphrodite. It’s Friday. We have the entire weekend to figure things out. By the time we get done with classes today, Shakespeare will be home and you can talk to him,” Zach says.

“I need to call him now,” I say, turning to go to my room. When I step in, I smell him. I look around and see his shirt and a note lying on my bed. I race to it, quickly picking up the note and reading it.

I grab the shirt while I read, taking a deep breath of his scent. The scent is so strong that I’m sure it’s the one he was wearing this morning.

“What did he say?” Piper asks, coming to sit beside me.

I take another deep breath of his scent before putting his shirt on my pillow.

“He said he loves me, to stay strong, and that this isn’t over.”

“You know Yorick means everything he says, so you’re going to stay strong while we figure this out. Like Zach said, we have the entire weekend get with Tracker and Hacker and see if they have anything on Alpha Leo,” Landon says.

I take another steadying breath, then stand. “Yes. The last thing he needs is for Alpha Leo to kick me out and send me home. That defeats the purpose of everything we’ve been working so hard to accomplish,” I say, pushing my shoulders back and lifting my chin. If Yorick can be strong, so can I.

“He’d be proud of you,” Chase says.

“Let’s go get some lunch. I’m guessing Yorick is expecting us to look after his Goddess of Love until he returns,” Zach says, making me chuckle.

We go to the dining hall and get food. I’m struggling to eat, pushing my food around more than actually ingesting any of it when I feel hands on my shoulders and a mouth close to my ear.

“Meet us after class in Tracker’s usual spot,” Hacker whispers.

I turn and look at him. He looks more serious than I’ve ever seen him look. “We have information. Only bring those you trust.”

I realize this must be about Yorick and since I’m his mate, he’s leaving it to me to tell my group of friends or keep it a secret. “I’m guessing this is about another secret meeting I’m not invited to,” Katelynn says, her tone indicating that she’s not happy about being left out of everything.

To my surprise, Hacker stands, his gaze zeroing in on her. “Spending quite a bit of time with Talek these days, aren’t you?” Everyone at our table turns and looks at her. Her eyes are wide, and a pink stain begins spreading across her cheeks.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she says indignantly.

“Be careful of that one. She’s trying to straddle the fence, keeping her feet on both sides. I just haven’t figured out what her end game is yet,” Hacker says, not taking his eyes off Katelynn.

“You don’t know what you’re talking about,” she growls.

He leans forward, stepping between me and and Piper, lowering his head so he’s staring straight at Katelynn. The hair on the back of my neck goes up at the danger that emanates off of him. It’s so surprising and so different from the California looking man I’m used to dealing with that even Rina sits up, as if getting ready for a fight.

“I know quite a bit… Punkie.”

“Punkie?” Zach says, turning to look at Katelynn.

Instead of answering, she gets up and leans over the table to Hacker. “It is illegal to listen in on someone’s private life,” she snarls.

“Not when you’re me,” he says, the dangerous aura coming from him intensifies and Katelynn begins to sweat.

She grabs her tray and stomps off. When she does, I notice Talek’s eyes following her and a moment later, he gets up too.

“Don’t trust her,” Hacker says.

“Dude, when did you become all badass?” Zach asks him.

Hacker watches Katelynn leave before turning and answering Zach, his sexy surfer’s smile back in place.

“You’re an Alpha. Isn’t it always under the surface.”

“Yeah, but… Dude, that was one hell of an aura.”

“I had to qualify to get into this Academy just like all of you did. Don’t let the pretty face fool you.”
