Wendy

“Alpha Henry! What are you doing here?” I ask. My heart does that little flutter thing it always does when I see Henry. This time, though, it’s not as strong as it usually is. Maybe Yorrie was right. I needed something to distract me from my infatuation with Alpha Henry, and boy have I found it. Or more accurately, I’ve found them. Plural. More than one distraction.

Yorick arrived home earlier. Since I knew he’d been kicked out, I waited for him. He’d hugged me quickly, then gone straight to Connor’s office where he’s been holed up all afternoon.

“I heard about Yorick. I’m here to see what I can do. Some hacker kid is supposed to be calling later with some information.” My phone rings and I pull it out of my pocket. When I see an unknown number, I send it to voicemail.

“They’re in…” I begin and my phone starts ringing again.

I look at the screen and see the same unknown number. I frown and send it to voicemail again before looking back at Henry. “Someone wants to talk to you,” he says, his eyebrow raised.

I’m about to answer when my phone pings with a text message.

‘Answer the phone, beautiful.’

Hijack.

My phone begins ringing again.

“I have to take this. They’re in Connor’s office.”

“A secret admirer?” Henry asks, suddenly very interested.

I hit answer but press the phone against my chest. “No, it’s nothing like that.”

“What is it like?” Henry asks.

I put the phone to my ear. “Give me a second.”

“It’s just a friend, Henry. You don’t need to go all Alpha on me,” I say to him.

“Is this a friend that Connor or Quirin know about?”

“He’s just a friend,” I say, standing my ground. Did I mention I’m constantly surrounded by dominant, possessive Alphas? Henry holds out his hand. I frown at him.

“Let me speak to the person on the phone, Wendy,” he says with zero humor in his tone.

I lift the phone to my ear. “Ummm…”

“Put him on,” Hijack says.

“Okay,” I say, handing the phone to Henry.

“This is Alpha Henry. Who is this?” he asks, his gaze not leaving mine.

His eyes narrow. “Alpha Lane, are you aware that Wendy is underage?”

He listens while Hijack, aka Alpha Lane, answers him.

“She has a very powerful family and very powerful allies. If you do anything at all that puts her in jeopardy, if you hurt her in any way, we will consider it an act of war and we will respond accordingly,” he says. I’ve never seen Henry like this before. He’s protective of me and my family, yes, but I’ve never seen him threaten someone before.

He listens to whatever Hijack says.

“You’ve been warned,” he says to Hijack, handing the phone back to me. “I will be speaking to Connor about this,” he says to

me.

“Fine. Geez!” I say.

He glares at the phone in my hand a moment longer before turning and heading to Connor’s office.

“Hey, sorry about that,” I say when I put the phone to my ear, walking to my room for some privacy. Instead of being angry, Hijack chuckles.

“I’m an Alpha, beautiful. I’m used to dealing with other Alphas.”
