I hadn't hung up the phone because I knew that if Chloe didn't say everything she wanted to, she would continue to call me with a different number after ending the call. Because of that, I decided to let her finish.

Meanwhile, Chloe decided to rephrase her words. She said, "You're happy now, but have you thought about when you're old?"

After pondering briefly, I answered, "Even if I'm not happy, I would still be happier than Steven. Don't you think so?"

That was not the answer Chloe had expected. Although Chloe wanted to curse at Annalise, she was conscious of how Annalise was no longer her daughter-in-law and had no obligation to let her finish.

If Chloe was too offensive, Annalise wouldn't bother listening, too. After taking some time to calm down, she continued, "But you abandoned your son. Who's going to take care of you when you're old?"

I answered, "If I remember correctly, both you and Steven abandoned Zachary. Wouldn't Steven end up the same way as I do? What makes you think he'll have it better than me?"

Chloe replied proudly, "That's because Jessica is pregnant, and it's my son's baby. When the child is born, my son will raise the child well."

I raised my brow at her words. The truth was that I wished, more than anyone else, that Steven would have a good relationship with the child. The more Steven loved the child, the higher his expectations would be for the child. If the truth was exposed, it would only add to Steven's disappointment.

Chloe continued, "Don't worry; his golden years will be better than yours."

"If that's the case, there's no need for you to contact me, right?" I asked jokingly.

I couldn't understand why Chloe came to me. I wondered if she expected to win me over with mere words. But I had never been the one who was in the wrong, which was all the more reason I had to not feel guilty.

Upon hearing my words, Chloe froze.

I said, "He has you and Jessica now. As his ex-wife, he shouldn't be of my concern."

The weather was getting cold. If we went to the balcony, it would be too windy and chilly. I thought it would be better if we stayed where it was warm.

I walked out of the room and said, "Let's go downstairs, then."

Seeing that I didn't reject him, Zane couldn't help but smile. He caught up with me and turned on the lights in the living room.

I followed suit and plopped down on the couch across from him. Then, I threw a meaningful smile at him.

When Zane met my eyes, he said, "How rare… It's just the two of us."

Resting my face on one hand, I asked, "What do you want to talk about?"
