Marie was overjoyed when watching her interview on television. She couldn’t get enough of seeing the footage of the supposed happy couple arguing. 

“It looks like their happiness wasn’t as genuine or everlasting as they claimed,” she commented while sipping on a glass of champagne. 

“I told you their happiness was fleeting.” Sophia said. 

“And luckily, my son is doing his part,” Isabelle declared. “I’m glad to see he used his head and managed to fool that idiot by telling her he still wants her and all that romantic nonsense that impresses women 

like her.” 

“By the way, has he planned what he’s going to do about the child? Sophia asked. “I mean, Roger made it clear he doesn’t want him.” 

“No idea. “Maybe he’ll just throw him away because he doesn’t resemble my son, so I refuse to acknowledge him.” 

“Well, looking at the baby’s photos, he does resemble her,” Sophia said, noting that despite her dislike for the former mute woman, James was a very cute baby. 

“I don’t care. Boys are supposed to resemble their father, and girls are supposed to resemble their mother. 

Her companions exchanged glances before looking back; they thought that comment made no sense. 

But they preferred to keep their opinions to themselves, not wanting to contradict her, since Isabelle was the one funding the operation. 

“Sure…” Marie said nervously, returning her gaze to the television. 

“By the way, dear,” Isabelle said, looking at Marie, “you need to keep insisting and make sure that Jayden doesn’t have too much happiness… I simply can’t allow that.” 

“You know, I… I have a question,” Sophia began. “Why do you hate her? I thought your families were friends.” 

“Yes… but the truth is, I’ve always hated Alexandra because she was the perfect girl, and for a moment, thought she would be my competition and try to steal George’s love from me,” Isabelle said, settling into her seat. “In fact, I once thought Deborah was their secret child,” she said, looking bored as she examined her nails. “But it turned out she wasn’t. Still, it angered me that her daughter wanted to take my Roger away, so I tried to teach my son not to believe in her love talk because I would never accept her as my daughter–in–law.” 

“And I was accepted, why…?” Sophia asked, somewhat confused. 

“Because you resemble me when I was young: beautiful, ambitious, talented, intelligent… everything I was, that’s why I supported you.”
