Sana froze, her restaurant recommendation for Wesley dying on her lips.
“Keep an eye on Jessi? Why?” Sana asked.
For a second there, Sana actually thought, ‘Maybe Wesley is calling because he’s finally realized my worth and is ready to say yes to me.’
“She came for her second follow–up consultation today, and I noticed some concerning emotional instability. Just keep an eye on her if you don’t want anything bad to happen,” Wesley said bluntly.
Sana blurted out, “No way! Jessi is such a strong woman. How could anything be wrong with her? Are you sure you didn’t misdiagnose her?”
She thought back to just yesterday, when Jessi had led them to closing a major deal. She didn’t seem the least bit troubled.
“I hope I’m just overthinking this,” Wesley murmured.
But the truth was, Jessica’s mental state was deteriorating rapidly.
If this continued, Wesley feared she would soon be beyond his help.
Sana felt a bit creeped out by Wesley’s tone. Though she thought he was being way too dramatic, she still decided to stay alert and kept a much closer eye on Jessica at work.
Jessica remained completely oblivious to her subordinate’s discreet attention; her mind was wholly focused on the court hearing scheduled for the next
day.
After work, she encountered Brian in the parking lot.
This time, he wasn’t alone. Jacob was with him.
“Mom.”
Jacob held out a bag of her favorite dried fruits, gazing at her with hopeful eyes.
“As soon as Jake left school, he kept insisting on buying you these/dried fruits. He said he wouldn’t leave until he did. I had no choice,” Brian said with a helpless smile, giving his son a gentle nudge forward.
Jacob shot his dad a glare. That wasn’t true. He was going to take these to Jessica’s place himself, but Brian dragged him here.
Jacob handed the bag over. “Mom, have a taste! The shop assistant said it’s a new flavor and tastes even better.”
Though he was mentally grumbling about his dad, he didn’t call him out,
He wasn’t stupid. Tomorrow was his parents‘ divorce hearing. Neither he nor his dad wanted to lose Jessica, so of course they’d do everything they could
to win her back.
“That’s not necessary,” Jessica said. “If I want something, I’ll buy it myself.”
Under Jacob’s hopeful gaze, her fingers twitched with the urge to reach out. She almost gave in.
“But-”
The light in Jacob’s eyes faded instantly. He started to say something, but Jessica cut him off.
“Jake,” Jessica said softly, “if you really want to make me happy, then please don’t come to the court hearing tomorrow.”

Chapter 185
As she spoke, she turned to Brian, her tone becoming calm and resolute.
“The divorce is between the two of us. I don’t want Jake to get dragged into it,” she stated.
Yet deep down, she still hoped to preserve some dignity in her son’s eyes.
