Chapter 241
By the time Jessica realized what she was doing, her phone had already saved several photos of Jacob. She looked at the backs of Brian and Jacob in the photos, finally unable to bear deleting them.
After the kindergarten gates opened, the crowd at the entrance gradually filed in. Jessica took one last look at Brian and Jacob, already far ahead, and
then left.
At noon, Jessica finally finished a mountain of work. She was so tired she didn’t even want to eat.
When a knock came, Jessica was scrolling through her phone and called out without looking up, “Come in.” It was probably Sana asking her to lunch.
Jessica smiled as she looked at the screen at Jacob in his uniform with a ribbon, standing tall and proud.
So when she heard Jacob’s clear voice, she thought it was a hallucination.
“Jessi?” Then came Brian’s slightly confused voice. Jessica suddenly looked up to see Brian and Jacob standing at her desk.
“Who let you in?” Jessica immediately put away her phone and frowned at them. She had told the receptionists not to allow them in unless Brian was
here for business.
“Mom, don’t blame Dad. I called Grandpa and begged him to let us in,” Jacob said softly.
Jessica fell silent–she couldn’t blame her father–so she let them stay.
Trying to calm herself, Jessica asked coldly, “What do you want?”
Jacob looked visibly deflated at her tone.
“Jessi,” Brian said helplessly, but Jessica turned away.
Brian could only nudge Jacob. Jacob took a deep breath, grabbed a camera, and ran to Jessica.
“Mom, I graduated today! This is my graduation video. Will you watch it?” He held up the camera, looking at her hopefully.
“Jessi, just take a look,” Brian pleaded. “Jacob wanted to show you right after the ceremony. Please watch.”
But Jacob interrupted, “Dad, don’t rush her! If Mom is busy, it’s okay. The video will be here—she can watch it later.”
Jacob tried to sound understanding, but his eyes reddened. With a sigh, Jessica took the camera and clicked play. “Fine, let me see.”
Jacob cheered when she accepted the camera, and Jessica couldn’t help smiling.
“Mom, did I look cool when I walked on stage?” Jacob leaned in as soon as the video started.
“Not bad,” Jessica said sincerely. Jacob had indeed been in great form.
“The teachers said so too! Oh, Mom, I played a piano solo today and didn’t miss a single note!” Jacob boasted.
Watching the video of Jacob playing piano, Jessica felt proud. She had once eagerly anticipated his graduation, but she’d missed it.
She wasn’t entirely regretful, just a little sad. To hide her emotions, she asked casually, “Why isn’t your ribbon on your chest?”
Jacob paused, then realized what she meant. Looking at the video where he wasn’t wearing the ribbon, he remembered he’d had it on that morning. He’d planned to wear it all day before giving it to Jessica as a souvenir, but he’d forgotten to put it on when changing into his ceremony clothes. “Oh right, Dad, where’s my ribbon?” Jacob turned to Brian, then apologized to Jessica, “Sorry, I forgot to wear it on stage. Wait, I’ll go find it-”
Chapter 241
He suddenly stopped, then asked excitedly, “Mom, how did you know I wore a ribbon this morning?”
Brian was helping look for the ribbon and thought it might be left in the car. After hearing that, he also turned around in surprise. “Yeah, how did you know? Were you at the kindergarten today?”
Jessica panicked but pretended to be calm. “You’re overthinking. At a formal event like a graduation, teachers would definitely tell students to wear ribbons. I was just surprised.” She would never admit she’d gone to the kindergarten.
“Jessi, you chose that kindergarten. You picked it because they value freedom over formalism, remember? There’s no rule about wearing ribbons at graduation,” Brian gently exposed her.
“Yeah, Mom! I used to never wear ribbons, and the teachers never said anything. You must have come to my graduation, didn’t you?” Jacob stared at her hopefully.
