5Fast Life 275
In the dream, Jessica erupted in fury.
She roared, “Shut your mouth! What do you mean I’m snatching them? Brian was the one who stole my children first.”
Terrified, Jacob whirled and threw himself into Madeline’s arms, wailing for her to kick Jessica out.
“Jessi, look how upset the boy is. You should go,” Madeline said.
Madeline held Jacob, smirking as she eyed Jessica and gave her belly a little pat–she was nearly due.
“Give me back my kids, and I will!” Jessica tried to barge inside.
But Jacob charged like a firecracker, slamming into her stomach. “Stay out!”
Jessica’s face twisted in pain, yet she instinctively reached to steady him, afraid he’d fall. Instead, he shoved her hard.
Weak and unbalanced, she was awkwardly pushed out the gates of Atkinson Manor.
The door slammed shut, leaving her leaning against it, tears streaming as laughter echoed from inside. She felt utterly desolate.
In a blink, ten years passed.
Her children were grown, but none recognized her.
They all thought Madeline was their mother, even as she spoiled them rotten.
When Jessica tried to warn them, she got only hateful glares.
“Get lost. We don’t have a cold–hearted mother like you,” one said.
“Yeah, you dumped us at birth. Now you want us to support you in old age?” another jeered.
“Mom, do yourself a favor,” Jake sighed. “Sometimes I don’t
admit you’re my mother.”
Then he led his two impatient siblings away, leaving Jessica rooted to the spot.
“No, that’s not true. Listen to me!” Jessica cried.
She tried to chase them, but her legs wouldn’t move. Helplessly, she watched them fade into the distance.
“Come back. Please come back!” she cried.
Jessica jolted awake from the nightmare, sitting up with her head bowed, unable to shake free of the dream’s hold.
She asked, “Is this really just a dream? Could it actually happen in real life?”
“No.” Wesley’s gentle voice drew her back from the memories.
Jessica came to her senses, realizing she’d blurted out her worries after describing the nightmare. Overcome by emotion, she’d voiced the fear that had been gnawing at her.
She swiped at her eyes, the warm dampness a stark reminder of her loss of composure.
“Here.” Wesley handed her a tissue.
Thanks She dabbed at her lashes.

Chapter 275
“Sorry, I got carried away just now.” Taking a few deep breaths to steady herself, she spoke in a calmer tone.
Wesley shook his head. “It’s all right, I get it.”
“Do you? Sometimes I don’t even get myself.” Jessica dropped her gaze.
Logically, she knew Wesley was right. Nightmares couldn’t materialize.
Her parents, Gabriela, and Sana–they’d all be there on delivery day. Even if Brian tried to snatch the babies by force, they’d never let him succeed.
But head knowledge and heart fears were two different things.
“Dr. Finch, why… why do I keep having this same dream?” Jessica asked.
She had never considered herself weak, yet the nightmare’s content was a cruel mockery.
She was desperate to understand the cause. Maybe unraveling that would free her from the haunting visions.
Wesley paused for a moment before replying, “As I’ve said before, dreams are a mirror of your psyche. You’re afraid, so you’re reliving this nightmare. The dream is literally your worst fear playing out.”
His words left her speechless.
Wesley continued, “Ms. Grant, you must have suspected that already.”
Jessica stared at the floor.
She thought, ‘Yes, I’ve known all along. I’ve just been playing dumb.‘
Jessica suddenly lifted her head, fixing Wesley with a dead–serious stare. “I won’t let that happen. No one’s taking my kids.”
She thought, ‘I’ve already let one child go. I’m not gonna lose another
This time, even if the whole Atkinson family showed up on her doorstep, even if Jacob threw a full–blown tantrum, she wouldn’t hand over her babies.
with him shutting you out?”
Wesley studied her resolute gaze. “What about Jacob? Can you really live w
Jessica’s expression stiffened.
She wondered, ‘If Jake really cuts me off like in the dream–never telling me about college, marriage, grandkids–can I truly stay unbothered? No, I can’t.’
“But what’s the alternative? We already gave up on each other,” she said.
Jacob had pulled away first, and she’d mirrored him. The past was set in stone. It was too late for regrets.
“I’ll force myself to accept it. I’ll have new kids soon.” Jessica turned her face, refusing to waver.
“You don’t mean that.” Wesley got straight to the point.
She let out a humorless laugh. “How many people get their heart’s desire? Dr. Finch, don’t try to change my mind. I’m content with my life. I don’t plan to change anything.”
“Your heart isn’t content. Honestly, Ms. Grant, if you keep this up, your condition will only get worse.” Wesley didn’t mince words
