Chapter 350
Jessica quickly got into her car, feeling his eyes follow her the entire time, though he didn’t pursue her for some reason.
When she realized this, she couldn’t quite identify her feelings. Whatever it was, it certainly wasn’t pure relief.
Jessica gripped the steering wheel and drove back to her apartment with an expressionless face. After stepping out of the elevator, she didn’t immediately enter her unit but stood quietly in the hallway, waiting.
Soon, another elevator door opened.
Brian’s face darkened as he spotted Jessica outside the elevator, panic flickering across his eyes for a moment. He said, “Jessica, you just got back, too? What a coincidence.”
Jessica stared at this man who was still putting on an act even now, impressed by how much his acting skills had improved over time.
If she hadn’t caught him following her, she might have fallen for his charade. “You’ve been tailing me this whole time, and now you’re calling it a coincidence?”
Jessica didn’t want to go through the same thing again, so she cut straight to the point.
Brian fell silent, then deflated like a punctured balloon. with your new boyfriend?”
you knew all along. Why didn’t you call me out earlier? Were you afraid I’d mess up your date
Jessica caught a whiff of jealousy in his tone. ‘Could that really be what this was about?‘ she wondered.
Her silence seemed to confirm Brian’s suspicions, and his already foul mood plummeted even further. He tried to hold back but couldn’t stop raising his
voice.
He said, “Jessica, even if you’re completely done with me and want to remarry, at least find someone with money! That guy clearly doesn’t have a dime to his name he even made you pay for the date. What could you possibly see in him?”
Jessica was completely speechless at his words. So Brian really had misunderstood and thought Wesley was her boyfriend. She frowned. ‘What a mess.”
“You’re absolutely insane.” Jessica couldn’t hold back the harsh words.
Brian’s hand clamped down on her shoulder, immediately loosening his grip.
He took a deep breath and nodded. “You’re right–I am insane. Watching you smile and laugh with him drives me out of my mind with jealousy.”
Brian desperately wanted to ask what that man had that he didn’t. Still, remembering how badly he’d hurt Jessica in the past, he couldn’t bring himself to invite more humiliation.
He thought, ‘I really do know I messed up, Brian thought to himself. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make things right. Can’t she just give me one more chance?‘
Jessica’s heart hammered in her chest. She never expected to hear Brian speak so openly, so raw.
“You-” she began.
Brian jerked back a step and dragged his hand roughly across his face. “Forget it. I lost control for a second there–just ignore everything I said.”
Jessica looked down. “Okay.”
Brian felt like an idiot and had no desire to keep pushing. Besides, from what he’d seen, Jessica and that guy didn’t seem close when they were together Maybe they’d barely known each other long.
He didn’t need to panic. There was still time, still a chance.
