Chapter 355
In the restaurant, Jessica had just finished ordering. She was about to probe Wesley and Sana’s relationship progress when someone walked through the
entrance.
Jessica’s expression froze.
“What’s wrong?” Sitting across from her, Wesley noticed her change in demeanor and asked with concern.
Before Jessica could respond, a low, pleasant voice came from behind her.
Brian said, “What a coincidence, Jessica. You’re eating here too?”
Brian’s affected tone made Jessica roll her eyes.
Wesley looked up at the tall man who had suddenly appeared. Brian’s gaze fixed entirely on Jessica, then glanced at Jessica’s obvious distaste.
A flicker of contemplation crossed Wesley’s eyes. “Friend of yours?” he asked.
“I guess,” Jessica answered offhandedly, then turned to Brian. “Need something?”
‘If not, then get lost.‘ Jessica rolled her eyes inwardly.
But Brian scanned the restaurant and suddenly pulled over a chair from nearby, putting on an apologetic expression. “All the other spots aren’t great. Mind if I share your table?”
After speaking, he acted as if he’d just noticed Wesley’s presence, smiling without warmth. “This unnamed gentleman wouldn’t have any objections, right? After all, it’s just friends running into each other and sharing a table. Any reasonable person wouldn’t be petty enough to stop that, right?”
Brian’s words dripped with such obvious sarcasm that Wesley couldn’t miss the hostility. His suspicions about Brian’s identity were becoming clearer by the second.
“No problem with me. Jessi’s treating today, so you don’t need my permission.” Wesley gave Jessica a slight smile as he spoke.
Jessica’s expression froze.
Wesley’s sudden shift to using her nickname made it clear he’d figured out who Brian was.
She wasn’t shocked–Brian had been anything but subtle, so it was only natural that Wesley would piece it together.
It was att Brian’s fault!
Jessica fumed internally, then lifted her head to glare coldly at Brian. “What if I said I minded?”
Brian was still staring daggers at Wesley. ‘Jessi? Pretty cozy, aren’t we?‘
Just then, Jessica’s voice cut through the tension, laced with barely contained anger. Brian went rigid.
“I do mind. Can you leave now?” Jessica’s tone was utterly devoid of emotion.
Brian tried to force his mouth into a smile, but it wouldn’t come. He took a deep breath, struggling to keep his voice steady.
He said, “Jessica, don’t be so cold to me, okay? it’s just dinner. I promise I’ll leave right after we eat–I won’t bother you two,”
Those last two words came out through gritted teeth.
Jessica glanced at Wesley, ready to decliné Brian’s request.
Chapter 355
She’d already caused enough trouble by failing to explain things clearly, leading to Brian’s misunderstanding about Wesley. She’d be completely heartless if she just stood by and let Wesley face Brian’s hostility directly.
“No-” Jessica began.
“Jessi, since your friend insists, let’s all eat together. It’s just one meal, no big deal,” Wesley cut in before Jessica could finish, shifting over to make room
for Brian.
Brian bristled at being helped by his romantic rival but still dragged his chair over and sat down.
Of course, he wasn’t about to waste the opportunity.
“Jessica, since your guest doesn’t mind, let me stay.” Brian started ordering with practiced ease.
“Have you two ordered yet? I see they have several appetizers you love here. Let me get these two dishes–you always go for these
Brian was about to order more when Jessica cut him off. “Enough! We already ordered. Are you done yet?”
She rolled her eyes internally. ‘Could this performance be any more obvious? Is he trying to make sure everyone knows he’s targeting Wesley?”
“Oh.” Brian set down his phone, clearly disappointed.
Jessica breathed a sigh of relief, thinking he’d finally been discouraged enough to quit his antics.
But when their food arrived, he launched into a fresh round of theatrics.
“Jessica, try this–I remember you really loved it before, though honestly, this place doesn’t look nearly as fresh as that restaurant we used to go to. Brian delivered his commentary while shooting pointed glances at Wesley.
Wesley kept eating silently, trying to ignore the peacocking display beside him.
Jessica stared at her bowl, now overflowing with dishes Brian had piled on for her.
Each serving came with its own running commentary, as if he were desperate to showcase how well he knew her.
If Wesley was her new boyfriend, he’d definitely be jealous by now. Hell, if he had any temper, he’d probably be picking a fight with Brian.
But Wesley knew exactly what her relationship with Brian was about.
All of Brian’s hostile posturing just made him look ridiculous.
Jessica could only cover her face in mortification. She wondered, ‘How had Brian become so damn childish?‘
“Jessi, you’re not eating. Did they change the recipe again today? What would you like to have instead?” Brian noticed Jessica hadn’t touched her food and asked with concern.
Jessica was already irritated, and his question made her snap back instinctively, “What, you think you can just whip up whatever I want on the spot?”
Brian didn’t hesitate for a second. “Of course I can. I’ll ask the staff if I can use their kitchen right now.” He started to get up from his chair.
“Sit down!” Jessica saw him about to embarrass himself in front of the entire restaurant and shouted without thinking. He might not care about making a scene, but she certainly did.
Brian obediently dropped back into his seat immediately. “Okay, whatever you say.” As he spoke, he deliberately shot a pointed look at Wesley.
Brian sneered inwardly, ‘All this guy does is eat. Doesn’t even bother checking on Jessica. What the hell does she see in him anyway?
Wesley caught his stare and smiled helplessly, picking up a slice of pizza. “It’s pretty good,” he said gently. “You should try some
