Chapter 95
Dessi, don’t let Jake’s age fool you–he’s got a strong Isand, Stella said,
Just like the past few days, Jessica was about to brush off Jacob’s attempt at closeness and head straight upstairs.
Stella, Manding behind the boy, jumped in to defend him. She’d been bringing Jacob over every day, hoping to mend the rift between mother and son.
Jessica knew her mom’s intentions, but deep down, she knew their relationship was beyond repair. She wanted Jacob to get used to life without hay now, while he was still young enough to adjust
“Mom Jacob looked up at her with wide, longing eyes.
Back in the clay, that look would’ve melted Jessica’s heart. But now she saw it for what it was–a ploy to get his way
When she didn’t respond, Jacob’s bottom lip jutted out, and he turned to Stella with a sad puppy dog expression.
“Bet your back’s killing you after a long day at work,” Stella said, pulling Jessica onto the couch. She couldn’t resist Jacob’s sad face.
Jacob’s eyes brightened. He rushed behind Jessica and started giving her back a firm but gentle massage.
Jessica pressed her lips together, Stella shot her a pointed look, so she held her tongue.
“Does that feel okay. Mom? Is this spot still sore?” Jacob chattered away as he worked.
Jessica just grunted in response, keeping her face stone–cold. No one could tell how conflicted she felt inside.
Since when had Jacob been so sweet? Ever since he was born, he’d always taken from her, and she’d given freely. That didn’t bother her. What stung was how he’d turned his back on her and thought everything she did for him was his due.
Stella watched them with a warm smile for a bit, then slipped away to give the mother and son some space.
“Jacob,” Jessica said.
“Yeah, Mom!” Jacob replied.
“Don’t keep coming over here for no reason,”
Jacob’s face fell. “I just wanted to see Grandma and Grandpa,” he mumbled, trying to
eto sound nonchalant.
Jessica spun around, seeing his hand hanging in mid–air. “Grow up,” she snapped. “You’re being childish”
He stared at his shoes. “What do you expect? I’m a kid.”
She bit back a sigh. A few days away, and he’d become cheeky.
“Don’t be mad, okay? I just really miss Grandma and Grandpa,” he pleaded, blinking back tears.
Jessica failed to get through to him but didn’t stop him from coming around. Her parents adored Jacob, and she knew it.
But just when she thought she’d dealt with the little nuisance, in strolled Brian with a fancy gift basket, coming to fetch Jacob just in time for dinner
“Dad“” Jacob called out
“Picking up Jake, but brought you some treats too–heard you’ve been skipping fruit. I brought you some dried fruit. Have a taste,” he said, eyes locked on her after he glanced at Jacob
Jessica scowled. Of course he’d find out. As CEO, digging up her eating habits was child’s play. Besides, her eating habits were not some big secret.
