Shaun brought Samantha, Zach, and Keith back to the Thompson residence. Something stirred in his heart as he glanced around at the house that was ever so familiar to him. It was the place where he grew up. He'd be lying if he said he didn't miss it.

After Shaun, Samantha, and the boys brought their luggage to their rooms, Will summoned Shaun to the back of the house where they kept Alex's memorial tablet.

"Since you're back, you should pay your respects to your grandfather and tell him you're sorry," Will said sternly.

Shaun felt a flurry of emotions as he stared at the photo of Alex. "I'll pay my respects, but I won't apologize. I did nothing wrong."

Will fumed. "If you hadn't broken your promise and eloped with that woman on the day of your engagement, your grandfather wouldn't have fallen ill!"

Pursing his lips, Shaun fell silent. He was wrong for breaking his promise, and he felt remorseful toward Alex because of that. Still, he didn't want to have a marriage like Alex's.

Alex and his wife, Shaun's grandmother, married for political reasons. The two of them treated each other with respect the way one would treat a stranger. Even people who weren't from the Thompson family could see that the two of them weren't close with each other.

In fact, he and she had totally different personalities. They got into fights every other day. Alex was frank and stubborn, so he rarely gave in. He frequently pissed her off, and she eventually fell sick and passed away.

Since then, Shaun swore to himself that he wouldn't marry a woman he didn't like. It was why he changed girlfriends all the time when he grew up. He just wanted to find the right woman for himself, and in the end, he met Samantha.
