She hit send, expecting Bryan wouldn't respond soon, especially since he hadn't been answering her calls. With that, she made her way to the side of the road to hail a cab.

As soon as she sat down in the car, Bryan's reply pinged. "30 million dollars is a significant amount. Give me a week."

She glanced out the car window, shooting a scornful look toward Hugo's hospital room.

With a sneer, she muttered, "You think it's my bad luck causing trouble, huh? Well, I'm through with both of you. You're the real misfortune, a pair of doomed souls. Enjoy growing old alone!"

Freya spent the next two days wrestling with her thoughts. After recalling how close she had come to dying at Chandler's hands, she decided to visit Colin to gather more information.

"Well, didn't you say he was sick? Once Germaine marries Jenson, we'll be family. As his future sister-in-law, I should at least check on him, don't you think?"

"It's good to see you're thinking about these things for once," Seth said, his tone softening with relief.

He nodded, his expression turning more serious. "Chandler's condition is grave. He's been in a coma for days without showing any signs of improvement. I'm not sure he'll make it.

"They say patients need sunlight, so we've moved him to the first room on the left on the second floor. If you really want to help, maybe you could ask your business contacts for a recommendation for a good doctor."

"I'll make a note of it and check when I get back," Freya said absently, rising to her feet. "You should rest now. Let me help you upstairs."

Seth was pleased with her change in attitude. "Bringing your sister back was the right choice. You're doing much better now."

Freya forced a smile but remained silent.

Before Germaine returned, Freya had always been Seth's favorite. Now, it seemed like everything she did was flawed in his eyes. Deep down, she knew the truth—Seth's affection for Germaine was far stronger than for her.
