Helen and her family were stopped outside Oakwood Hospital.

"Sorry, you're not allowed to enter without the patient's family's permission," the security guard standing outside the gates said aggressively.

"We are Aaron Boston and Cameron Boston's family. Why aren't we allowed to go in?" Melody asked.

"I don't know. We have orders not to let anyone in unless they have express permission from the hospital's director. Without the permission slip, I can't let you in," the security guard said, refusing to listen to reason.

"What kind of bullshit order is that?" Melody cursed, forsaking her dignity. Her eyes were red with worry. "Why the hell would I need a permission slip to visit my own husband and son? Is this really a hospital? This feels more like an illegal prison!"

Melody wasn't wrong.

Oakwood Hospital was notoriously expensive, yet the upper class still fought to get treated there.

It was very tight on security. Most of their patients were in a coma, like Aaron and Cameron, or paraplegic. All of them died of old age or illness in the hospital. So far, no one had left Oakwood cured and alive.

On the surface, Oakwood Hospital was a hospice for the old and severely injured. In reality, it was just yet another place to help the upper society with their power games.

Someone had tried to rescue their family member from the hospital before. They'd even called the police, who had searched the hospital, but not even the authorities had found any wrongdoing.

In the end, as the legal guardian had refused to let the patient get discharged from the hospital, the rescue failed.

In short, only victors got to leave the hospital—especially those who were cold-blooded and disregarded all their relationships.

"You can say anything you want. I can't let you in if you don't have a permission slip." The security guard was as stubborn as a rock.

He tapped his electrical baton against his other hand menacingly. He looked like he was prepared to attack them at any given moment, even though Helen and the others were unarmed.

"This is illegal imprisonment! This is illegal!" Melody roared, rushing toward the security guards.

However, they were all bigger and stronger than her. They were also properly trained, so all it took was a small push from one of them for Melody to stumble backward.

She'd pledged more money to the hospital, making the director so happy that he agreed to call in more backup security guards.

Right now, the hospital's main entrance was locked and guarded by armed personnel. Short of growing wings and flying right into the hospital, there was no way that Helen would be able to rescue Aaron and Cameron.

Just then, someone knocked on the door of the office. Faye looked up.

"Everything's ready," Ronald said calmly, standing in the doorway.

He was still Faye's fiancé on paper. However, without the Lindvall family backing him up, he was now reduced to nothing more than her personal assistant.

"Alright." Faye placed her coffee mug back on the coffee table. She stood up and walked toward the door, expression cold and distant. Her gait was firm and steady.

Ronald followed behind her. As he stared after her determined figure, a sly look flashed through his eyes.
