Monica’s question was exactly what Garbisch and Nolan were most worried about.

Garbisch said, “Jessica, I’ve already sent someone to invite Mrs. Alivia. But we’re still short two people.”

He leapt down from his horse and walked over to Jessica. “The hour is getting late. If we don’t head to the hunting grounds soon, I fear we’ll miss our time slot and displease the King.”

By now, the sky had already brightened, though it remained gray and murky,

Today’s weather was far from ideal. After days of clear skies and sunshine, it was unexpectedly gloomy. Overhead, dark clouds gathered and dispersed, leaving the possibility of rain later in the day uncertain.

“No need to wait for Aunt Alivia. Let’s go ahead to the hunting ground. She’ll make her way there,” Jessica said, springing up onto her horse.

It was only then that Garbisch noticed what Jessica was wearing. She had a fitted riding outfit, though it was covered by a loose cloak that had hidden it at first glance.

Her long hair was tied high up, lacking any trace of ladylike gentleness. On the contrary, she looked valiant and heroic.

For a moment, an image flashed through Garbisch’s mind. It was his mother, Celine. Today’s Jessica looked so much like their mother had back in the

day.

“Jessica, why are you dressed like this? Are you competing?” he asked, instantly anxious. “Jessica, before entering the royal hunting grounds, you must first pass the qualification trial! Even Nolan might not make it through!”

“That’s why I never planned to let Nolan compete.” Jessica smiled.

Nolan blushed. He knew his skills weren’t top–tier, though he didn’t believe he’d necessarily fail.

He said, “I… will do my best…”

Jessica replied, “No need. I want absolute certainty in this competition, If you fail the trial, we’ll lose a spot on our team.”

Jessica pulled the reins and glanced back at Monica.

Monica quickly responded, “Everything is packed. Are you sure you don’t want to take the carriage?”

“A little physical activity will do me good,” Jessica said. Then, with a squeeze of her legs, her horse shot forward.

Monica gave Garbisch a look and immediately added, “Ms. Yates said everyone on our team will make their way to the hunting grounds separately. There’s no need to wait here. Let’s go!”

She hopped into the front seat of the carriage and took the reins.

Jessica and Monica had both accompanied military expeditions over the years. While their martial arts might not be top–notch, their manship was

solid.

Seeing them depart like this, Garbisch didn’t find anything particularly off.

But Nolan grew increasingly uneasy. “Mr. Yates, think Ms. Yates really intends to compete. But before entering the royal hunting grounds, there’s a qualification exam! How could she possibly pass?”

Jessica might be good at riding, but the trial wasn’t just about riding. It required skilled archery too. And Nolan had never once seen her practice with a

bow.
