Chapter 220
Waldo seethed, Henry was struck dumb with shock, and Garbisch trembled in terror, but Leon remained calmly composed, a faint smile playing on his lips.
Jessica finally emerged, although the tents were small, her sharp hearing allowed her to make out every word of their conversation, even from inside her
tent.
Fortunately, Monica and the others were at a barbecue; otherwise, Leon’s shocking comments would have terrified them.
“Jessica,” Garbisch stammered, entirely at a loss. He rushed to her side, hoping for a clue. ‘How,’ he desperately wondered, ‘do I get out of this mess?”
Jessica cast a helpless glance at him, thinking, ‘It’s so difficult to manage things with the Demon King around; he’s completely unpredictable.
“Prince Leon came looking for me, but since I didn’t know what urgent matter he needed to discuss, I invited him here for a drink with you first. Brother, why didn’t you properly entertain His Highness?” Jessica said.
Hearing this, Garbisch, a little flustered, immediately jumped at the chance, saying, “Actually, we were just about to start the feast. We got quite a few boars today, and everyone’s roasting the meat right now. Jessica, why don’t you see if it’s ready? Then we can have some brought over to go with the drinks.”
“Understood,” Jessica acknowledged with a nod, then promptly departed.
Seeing Leon and Waldo, Henry knew he couldn’t speak to Jessica alone. Disappointed that he couldn’t discover why she recommended him to the Queen in person, he left.
The moment Henry left, Leon relaxed, grinned at Garbisch, and declared, “Garbisch, I’m famished! About that fine wine you promised – is it the real deal? Have someone bring it over right now!”
He’s calling his name?‘ Waldo thought, his face darkened, and he said sternly, “Brother, watch your tongue. As a noble, you shouldn’t address people so informally. If Father hears of this, you’ll be severely punished.”
Flustered, Garbisch stammered, “Your Highness, in the future…”
Leon sneered, looking at Waldo, and said, “You’re the only outsider here–are you planning to snitch to Father?”
Perched casually on the low stool, Leon fixed Waldo with an amused stare, his long legs awkwardly cramped in the small parlor, which was furnished with only low wooden stools instead of the mansion’s grand chairs, making him look almost absurdly out of place.
Leon Francis perched on the low stool, his tall frame looking almost comical, yet he exuded an air of effortless ease and comfort, as if he owned the
place.
Waldo clenched his fists tighter; Leon’s words-“You’re the only outsider here“-stung him. ‘Outsider?‘ he fumed inwardly. ‘Who’s the real outsider?‘
Leon sneered, “What’s this, Waldo? Are you considering tattling to Father, for real?”
Leon shot him a sidelong glance, bursting into laughter. “Go on, tell Father if you dare! See if he believes you. I won’t admit to anything until after I marry Jessica.”
Waldo exclaimed, “What?” then thought, ‘Marry Jessica? Whose idea was that?‘
