Waldo, his voice tight with suppressed fury, demanded, “General Garbisch, what exactly is he implying?” Waldo wondered, ‘Why does Leon seem so familiar with the Yates family?>

‘He’s not only calling Garbisch by name, but also referring to them as a family—what connection does he possibly have to the Yates family?!

“Well,” Garbisch said, regaining his composure, appearing relatively calm compared to Waldo’s earlier outburst. “To be honest, I don’t fully understand Prince Leon’s temperament either, so I’m not sure why he said those things.”

He wondered, ‘Well, I have to avoid everything, and that would be alright!‘ Jessica had taught him the perfect standard answers for those moments when he was unsure how to respond.

Seeing Waldo’s barely suppressed anger, Garbisch mused, ‘Jessica is something else! She was right–these answers are perfectly standard.”

In a hushed voice, Waldo inquired, “What’s the nature of Jessica’s relationship with Leon?”

Walls have ears; someone could have been listening. This place wasn’t nearly as secure as the prince’s residence. Garbisch then added hesitantly, Well… I’m not sure. You’ll have to ask Jessica and Prince Leon about that.”

“Are yoù seriously suggesting that a nobleman like myself should publicly question them in front of everyone?” Waldo said.

Garbisch said, “Not impossible. Why don’t you ask them yourself, Your Highness?” Then he thought, ‘It’s just asking–they won’t admit anything anyway. Didn’t Prince Leon essentially say the same thing? After all, he won’t confess to anything, and even the King is powerless to do anything about it.

Garbisch visibly relaxed, having deciphered the plan: ‘Cause a private commotion, then publicly deny everything–brilliant! That’s the strategy!” He smiled at Waldo, saying, “Your Highness, after you.”

Although his tone was deceptively polite, he was telling Waldo to investigate the matter himself, leaving Waldo seething with fury as he fumed inwardly, wondering how he could ask such a question in public and whether he cared about the potential repercussions for the Yates family.

Jessica and Leon wasted no time; soon, Jessica and Monica entered carrying two large platters of barbecue, with Leon following close behind, already enjoying a bite.

“Your Highness, are you really that hungry?” Garbisch blurted out, staring in disbelief as Leon devoured his food on the move. ‘Guess that cool and aloof act is out the window,’ he thought.

Leon barely acknowledged him before turning away. Just as Jessica was about to set down the platter, he quickly sampled his barbecue skewer, then took the tray from her hands to place it on the low table himself.

Following them, Alivia and Leanna came in with platters of meat, while Karlie trailed behind, carrying two bowls of fruit; Leon, after setting down the meat, quickly relieved Karlie of a fruit bowl and brought it to the table.

Waldo scoffed inwardly, ‘Seriously? Leon, the great Leon, is trying to win Jessica over by sucking up to her family? I can’t believe my cold–hearted brother is capable of such a thing.‘
