Jessica was initially stunned, but then she laughed. It was truly laughable.

“Your Highness, my brother personally went to the King to secure the annulment decree. Now you want someone from the Yates family to go back to the King and ask him to reverse it? Are you trying to make the Yates family fall out of favor with the King for good?”

“This mess was caused by the Yates family. Do you really expect me to clean up after you?”

Waldo had already been trying to keep his temper in check, but his words still came out sharp.

He said, “Jessica, stop being so stubborn. You know I can’t afford to make mistakes in front of the king. If General Garbisch goes to him and asks for forgiveness, he might scold him a bit, but at least we can still salvage this situation.

“If he doesn’t go, our marriage is as good as over. Jessica, it has stop here. If the wedding is canceled, we’ll never be able to marry again. The people will laugh at us. At that point, it’ll be too late to fix anything.”

“I never intended to fix it,” she said flatly.

She thought, ‘So, what is the point of all his efforts?‘

Waldo’s eyes darkened. “Jessica, I’ve come all the way here. How long are you planning to drag this out?”

Jessica furrowed her brow. “Your Highness, what exactly makes you think I must marry you? Why do you still think I’m just throwing a tantrum? Didn’t the annulment decree make things clear enough?”

“Just because there’s another woman by my side?” Waldo’s patience was thinning, but it was more than just frustration now–there was a tinge of disappointment.

“I’m a prince, and I may one day become king. Do you think I’ll only have one woman by my side? Even if I wanted that, the people would never allow it.”

“So all those promises you made–that you’d love me forever, and now you’ve promised to spend your life with Priscilla–were those just empty words?”

Jessica paused, starting to doubt everything. She wondered, ‘Have I really seen this man clearly over the past nine years? Is this the man I have loved all this time?‘

Waldo’s expression shifted. “I am sincere with Priscilla, but I’ve promised to protect you for life, and I’ll never break that promise. The position of Princess has always been yours. I’ve done right by both of you.”

“It is just because you know that Priscilla’s background means the royal family won’t let her be the Princess, so you’re offering the position to me instead, isn’t it?”

It all seemed so convenient for him.

Her words landed like a slap to Waldo’s face.

His face flushed with anger, and for a moment, he looked less like a noble prince and more like a tyrant. He clenched his fists, struggling to hold back his

fury.

“Jessica, I’m warning you to stop!” He took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down.

He added, “You know the situation with the Yates family! Garbisch is infertile, and the Yates family has no power left. Without a master, my father will reclaim control over the Yates family’s troops soon.

“If you come back to me, I can still protect the Yates family. But if you don’t, it’s headed for destruction. You’ll end up with nothing.”

“I’m sorry, but the Yates family has its own future. There’s no need for Your Highness to worry about it.”
