Jessica shook her head from a distance, then turned to look at Garbisch, lost in thought. “Garbisch, I’m going to see Grandfather. You should head back and review what you leamed today“.

As he walked off still deep in thought, Jessica couldn’t help but worry he might trip or stumble, so distracted was he by his analysis.

But since Garbisch had been struggling with his injury and hadn’t shown true joy in a long time, seeing him so happy today was a rare and precious

Even though he didn’t say anything, she knew that he had long given up on life. For him to be so cheerful today was a welcome change

Once Garbisch was out of sight, Jessica immediately turned to Nolan. “What’s going on?”

“Grover has come with his family, demanding to see General Algernon, Nolan whispered, lowering his voice. “They’ve come in a large group, causing a scene and insisting on…”

“Insisting on what?” Jessica’s expression darkened as she quickly made her way toward the Delight Hall where the Duke resided.

Nolan followed her, hesitating for a moment before responding. “They say General Garbisch is infertile, and the Yates family’s line is in danger… In short, they’re after the Yates family’s inheritance.”

Jessica had known something like this would eventually happen, but she hadn’t expected it to come so soon. As she neared Delight Hall, she saw a crowd gathered at the gate.

They hadn’t gone inside yet. She breathed a quiet sigh of relief.

However, the Yates family’s guards were clearly struggling to keep them at bay. Some had even been struck.

That was when Jessica noticed a slap mark on Nolan’s face. She hadn’t noticed it in her earlier rush, but now she saw it clearly.

A pang of guilt surged in her chest. “I’m sorry”

The people from Grover Yates’s side were impossible to reason with or move, so the guards had to create a human barrier to block them. But the other side had a fiery temper and didn’t hesitate to lash out, while Nolan and the others couldn’t fight back, which put them at a disadvantage.

Though Nolan was just a guard, he had fought alongside her and Garbisch for many years. He had seen his fair share of battles and was no stranger to hardship.

To see him slapped like that, especially after everything he had done for them, made her heart ache.

He was just grateful to be treated with sincerity by both Garbisch and Jessica. A few slaps didn’t bother him much.

Jessica nodded, putting her concerns aside for now, and quickly walked toward the crowd.
