Chapter 52
“Ah—- Carole’s agonized scream had barely escaped her lips when, suddenly, another blow landed on her back.
The pain was so intense that her vision blurred with stars, and she could hardly make a bound, nearly losing consciousness.
The sudden turn of events stunned the people around her, leaving them frozen in shock, wide–eyed, unable to move.
Just as the third blow was about to fall, Carole’s daughter, Beverly Yates, finally snapped out of her dare and screamed, “They’re killing her! The people from the Yates family are trying to kill her!”
Carole’s husband, Lavern, rushed over grabbing!
bbing the wooden stick from Nolan’s hand. He shouted angrily. “How dare you strike my wifel How dare your
He raised his hand, ready to strike.
Nolan didn’t flinch or move. He knew that when he swung the stick at Carole, he wouldn’t be able to avoid punishment,
After all, it was a servant striking the wife of another family. Even if they weren’t from his direct family, they were still part of the Yates family in a way
There were rules–striking a member of the family would lead to consequences. But since it was Jessica’s order, even if it cost him his life, he would follow through
Lavern’s hand was about to land on Nolan’s face. But just before it hit, a slender hand reached out and gently grabbed his wrist.
“Why are you striking a member of the Yates family, Lavern? Could you kindly explain?” Jessica’s calm voice cut through the air.
Lavern thought. That wretched girl again!!
Lavern jerked his hand, intending to fling her off. Since she had approached him first, he thought if she was thrown to the ground, it would be her own fault. He wanted to make an example of her in front of everyone.
With Garbisch practically disabled now, and no one strong left in the Yates Tamily, he wondered, “Who does this girl think she is, trying to control us?”
He even imagined how he would apologize later, pretending it was an accident after throwing her down.
But to his surprise, when he tried to shake off Jessica’s hand, he couldn’t. She held on firmly, while he almost lost his balance and stumbled. He thought, “What is going on? Am I really that weak today?”
“Damn girl, do you still remember I’m your uncle? Let go!” Lavern gritted his teeth as his wist burned with pain, a sharp sting spreading through his hand. He didn’t know what was wrong with his body.
Jessica smiled and released his wrist. “Just my uncle, nothing more.”
“You…” Lavern staggered backward, losing his footing and taking several unsteady steps.
“You…” He was so furious that his teeth were clenched, but for a moment, he couldn’t find the right words to say.
Especially with Carole still lying on the ground, having taken two blows and wailing in pain.
“Carole!” Lavern rushed to help her up:
Beverly and a couple of servants also hurried over, along with Grover’s family, all scrambling to assist.
But there were so many people that most of them couldn’t get close. They were just there to show concern.
“You… you filthy gall How dare you have someone strike me? You… Carole, still disheveled and covered in dust, pointed at Jessica, trembling with
anger.
