Looking around, she saw the people from Grover’s family stepping back, clearly trying to distance themselves, it was hard to tell where the knife had come from

Just as the crowd began to grow uneasy, a sharp grunt broke the silence.

Jessica’s expression darkened slightly. She turned and walked toward the elderly man sitting in a wheelchair, bowing respectfully. “Grover, it’s been a while. I hope you’re in good health?”

“Do you still consider me your uncle? Grover slammed the armrest of his wheelchair, his voice full of authority.

Grover was the younger brother of General Algernon.

He had no title at first, but his youngest son, Rashad, had made a name for himself, fighting alongside Jessica’s father, General Caesar, in battles and earning many military achievements.

The King had personally granted him the title of Baron, making him briefly enjoy a period of fame and glory.

But unexpectedly, several years ago, Rashad died on the battlefield.

The king in recognition of his service, had passed on his title and achievements to Grover, thus granting him the title of Baron,

With the Yates family now diminished, and with both Garbisch and Jessica not being ones for socializing, the two families didn’t interact much except for occasional visits during holidays.

But today, it seemed that the entire family from the Grover House had come.

Jessica smiled at Grover. “Grover, please don’t say that. You’re an elder, how could I not show you respect?”

“What about Garbisch? I’ve been here for so long, why hasn’t he come to greet me?”

Grover, relying on Rashad’s military achievements and his status as an older, spoke without a shred of politeness, “Go get Garbisch. I want to see for myself if he’s really as sick as they say!”

Jessica’s eyes darkened. She felt a flare of anger rise within her, but she kept her composure.

She

responded calmly. “Garbisch just returned from Leon House and hasn’t heard that you’ve come. I’ve already sent someone to notify him.”

Grover thought, “Leon House? Garbisch is involved with Prince Leon? When did this happen? While Prince Lean and Prince Waldo maintain a peaceful front, they are actually bitter enemies. Isn’t Garbisch afraid of offending Prince Waldo by associating with Prince Leon?

“Oh, that’s right, Jessica’s engagement to Prince Waldo has been broken off. Now they likely lose Prince Waldo’s support and have turned to Prince Leon for help.

Their desperation is clear–this could only mean the Yates family was in serious decling
