Chapter 56
ca seemed a bit confused. “How could I possibly disrespect you? It was you who said I didn’t head to thank you, and you didər très earlier. Should I still grovel and thank you for nothing?”
“Don’t you even want to know why I came help?” Waldo said, his anger rising to the point where he felt like he might burst.
It had been a simple, polite remark from him, but she had turned it around, completely brushing aside the favor he had just done for her. He thought, This woman really knows how to take advantage of a situation!‘
Jessica’s face, flawless and as beautiful as a goddess without any inakoup, remained impassive. She asked calmly, “So, why did you come! Of course, if you don’t want to say, I’m not particularly interested in asking”
Waldo’s anger flared up. The Jessica he knew wasn’t like this,
He hated himself even more. He knew full well that Jessica was rutiless and calculating, the one who had caused Consort Adele to be publicly slapped by his father, and had nearly caused Priscilla to lose her life with a brutal punishment.
He had already resolved that whatever happened with her and Leon was none of his concern.
Consort Adele had even convinced him not to visit her today. Yet, in the end, here he was, Waldo didn’t even know what he was thinking anymore.
Maybe he just wanted to see how Leon would torment her, so he could take advantage of the situation himself.
Jessica, however, didn’t share his complicated thoughts. She was more concerned about Garbisch. She feared that the people from earlier might take advantage of their distraction and go humiliate him. Garbisch was still fragile.
“If Your Highness has nothing important to say, then I’ll be leaving. Please feel free to do as you wish,” she said, turning to go.
Waldo stepped forward, his tall figure blocking her path in an instant. “I have something to say to you.”
Jessica glanced at his movements, but her mind was elsewhere, wondering how his lightness compared to Malik.
She didn’t respond to him, and Waldo could no longer contain his anger. His voice grew sharper. “Jessica, I’m talking to you!”
“Oh,” Jessica responded coolly, not angry at all. She simply turned back and told Monica, “Please have someone bring some coffee and snacks to the side hall
They were heading to the side hall of the main house.
But in the past, when Waldo came to see Jessica, he would go directly to the Moonchase Hall where she lived.
Now, arriving at the side hall of the main house, he couldn’t shake the feeling that he had been kept at arm’s length.
“What do you want to say?” This was the second time Jessica had asked.
After the chaos at the banquet, she didn’t seem apologetic or angry. Her demeanor was calm, graceful, and composed.
This frustrated Waldo to no end. No matter how angry he got, it felt like he was punching a pillow–nothing he did seemed to have any effect.
It was as if he no longer mattered to Jessica. He even wondered, “If I died in front of her right now, would she shed a single tear for me?” The
a bitter taste in his mouth.
