Chapter 62
Three days later, Malik arrived. He hadn’t entered the city yet and was staying at an inn outside the city, waiting for the royal family of lign officially receive him,
To everyone’s surprise, the Queen had assigned Jessica to greet Elsie Mcbride, who was traveling with Malik.
“Why is it always someone from the Mcbride family?” Monika grumbled, her dislike for the
for the Hcbride clear.
Jessica smiled. “Priscilla grew up in the desert, meat Askar. They may have been from Askar originally. It’s not strange for them to share the same
Just then, the carriage stopped outside the inn.
As Jessica stepped down, she looked up and saw a tall, striking figure standing near the front of the carriage
“Prince Leon?” Monica asked, still uneasy despite herself.
Jessica was surprised but quickly composed herself and walked toward him. “Your Highness, today-
Suddenly, a sharp whoosh sliced through the air, and a short knife flew out from inside the inn
Before Jessica could react, she saw a flash of dark sleeves. Thud! The knife embedded itself deeply in a nearby tree trunk.
In an instant, Leon pulled her aside with incredible speed. Her skirt caught underfoot, and before she knew it, she had stumbled right into his arms.
When Waldo arrived, the first thing he saw was Leon holding Jessica. Hughie, who was with him, stood frozen in shock. This was far beyond anything considered proper between a man and a woman.
“What’s going on here?” Waldo stormed over, his voice seething with anger.
Jessica, now steady on her feet, was about top back into his embrace
pull away from Leon’s arms when she heard Waldo’s sharp question. Her legs went weak, and she fell right
A mysterious smile crossed Leon’s face. He thought, ‘The beautiful woman has practically thrown herself into my arms–why not take advantage of the situation? He pulled her closer.
“Jessica, do you know what you’re doing? Waldo’s voice was cold, his frustration clear.
Waldo stepped forward, grabbed Jessica’s arm, and yanked her away from Leon.
“Let go! You’re hurting me!” Jessica shot him an angry look. “What I do is none of your business! Don’t touch me!”
“You
“Waldo, it seems Ms. Yates and you are no longer involved. If you don’t want to cause misunderstandings, I’d appreciate it if you refrained from touching her,” Leon said casually, a fick of his hand enough to make Waldo’s grip falter
Waldo glared at him. “Then what exactly is your relationship with Jessica?”
Leon smiled wryly. “Nothing special. I just happen to have unrequited feelings for Ms. Yates.”
Those nearby were stunned, thinking, Does he really just admit that so openly? This kind of confession seems almost absurd!
But Jessica remained unfazed, her expression as calm as ever. She didn’t feel any flutter in her heart at Lean’s confession.
She wasn’t moved. She thought, ‘Who knows what Prince Leon is really thinking? I have used him impulsively earlier, and who could say what trouble he might cause for me in the future? He is too mysterious, too unpredictable–better to keep my distance.
