Chapter 8
Waldo, seething with anger, brought Priscilla along as they set off back to Capitalin
He thought that if he teht Jesus alone for a while, she would eventually come running to him, crying and begging for his forgivene
But after they turned to Capitalia, she surprised him by staying at the Yates family for ten days without stepping outside its gates.
At first, he didn’t care. But then, his curiosity got the best of him, and he couldn’t resist sending a guard to check on her. “Is the sick? Or is General. Garbisch’s injury still serious, and she’s needed to take care of him?”
The guard returned quickly with a report. “Your Highness, it seems General Garbisch is recovering well. In fact, today he even entered the palace to meet His Majesty
“Entered the palace to see the King?” Waldo thought, Ageneral who has abandoned his post still has the audacity to meet with His Majesty
“Since General Garbisch is fine, why is Jessica hiding in the residence?” He had been waiting for her to come to him and apologize, but she hadn’t. He wondered, “What is she thinking?” “Did kick her too hard? Is Monica still hurt?”
“Monica seems to be fine now. She and Ms. Yates were both in the garden today, drying herbs.”
“She’d rather be drying herbs than come soo me?”
Waldo had expected Jessica to come to him on her own, apologizing, and he’d planned to take the opportunity to ask for certain things. But he waited and waited, and she never made a move.
Finally, on the seventh night, unable to stand it any longer, he decided to visit the Yates family himself,
Jessica had just finished bathing, water droplets still clinging to her long hair,
As she stepped into the side hall, she held a small box. Waldo only glanced at it and didn’t pay it much attention.
She had often prepared small gifts for him in the past, and each time, he had been genuinely surprised and pleased.
But now, after everything that had happened, her attempts to use such gestures to win him over only felt empty and uninteresting. Compared to Priscilla’s straightforward nature, Jessica’s little tricks seemed contrived and lacking.
“gave you several days to think about things. Do you know where you went wrong?” This time, Waldo came to her with a very different attitude than before. His mood wasn’t as brooding or defeated as last time.
Though his face showed displeasure, there was a certain confidence in his demeanor. He even looked a bit triumphant.
Jessica had someone bring coffee, then asked Monica to leave the room. She invited Waldo to sit, her every movement graceful and composed. She truly embodied the elegance of a well–bred woman.
In the past, Waldo had admired her elegance. But now, when he looked at her, all he could hear were Priscilla’s words echoing in his mind. “I’m not one of those delicate, sycophantic women. Don’t try to use your rules to constrain me.”
The women he had known all his life had been either noble ladies or women from the palace–proper, reserved, and always following the rules
Priscilla, on the other hand, was different. That was why he had found himself so drawn to her, falling deeper with every passing day.
But now, looking at Jessica, though she was undeniably beautiful, she felt so stiff and dull by comparison.
Jessica noticed his growing disinterest but remained calm, “Your Highness, could you please tell me where you think I went wrong?”
“Is this how you intend to speak to me, Jessica? You’re not a child anymore!” His displeasure deepened.
