“I actually have a question for you,” Charlotte said, controlling her anger. “Why did Ms. Miller call me in the middle of the night?” 

Arthur froze for a moment at the mention of Sarah. “Sarah called you?” 

Charlotte took out her phone and displayed the number. “Do not tell me this is not hers.” 

Arthur gave it a quick glance and replied, “That is not her number.” 

He thought, “Ha, so he does care. Just a quick glance, and he knows.” 

Charlotte’s gaze turned icy. “She sent me a lot of bragging texts. from this number.” 

She then showed him the messages Sarah had sent. 

Noticing him remain silent, her expression grew darker. “I am going to confront her now. Do not get in my way. 

With that, she turned and walked away. 

Arthur’s expression soured. He had never expected Sarah to send provocative photos and messages to Charlotte.

The car screeched to a halt in front of the hospital. The building

Charlotte burst through the ward door and found Sarah sitting on the bed, looking exhausted with bloodshot eyes, a complete 

mess. 

Upon seeing her, Sarah recoiled. “What do you want?” 

Charlotte stepped forward, her face devoid of expression. 

Sarah instinctively shrank back, her voice trembling. “You

Thinking of how terrified Mabel had been–her pale face and trembling cries–guilt and regret threatened to overwhelm her. 

She thought, “Why do I have to endure this? If things are this bad, we might as well just end it all together!” 

“Charlotte, calm down,” Arthur said, his grip tightening on her wrist, his tone firm.
