Diana stared at her, stunned. “You two planned to die together?” 

“Of course not!” Charlotte quickly shot back, her voice trembling with distress. “He has severe depression. He has been saying he wants to die. When I jumped out of the car, he thought I was trying to kill myself.” 

Diana gave her a speechless look. She pulled out a chair and sat by the bed. “Alright, explain to me—why did you jump?” 

Charlotte stiffened at the question, raising her hand to cover her eyes. Her voice was strained and rough as she replied, “I just…though of getting away, in that moment.” 

Diana watched her quietly for a moment. “Alright, get some rest. I will take care of the hospital fees.” 

Charlotte had a small fracture in her foot and needed a few days of bed rest. 

She felt exhausted, both mentally and physically. The ward grew quiet, and she soon fell into a deep sleep.
