Chapter 28 He Needs You 

Diana had been keeping an eye on the surveillance cameras. The moment she saw Arthur leave with his men, she immediately texted Charlotte with the update. 

Charlotte let out a long breath, the weight on her chest finally lifting. 

She pressed the voice message button and spoke in exasperation, “You don’t understand. I was scared out of my mind! I’m drenched in sweat. I’m taking a shower right now. That man is out of control. This marriage has to end. He’s way too dangerous!” 

Diana replied with a faint sigh, “It’s not just about the divorce. The little bit of

progress you made today? You just slammed the door shut on it yourself.” 

Charlotte rolled her eyes. “I’ll think about it later. Shower first.” 

One crisis averted, but another one waited in the wings. 

After her shower, she lay on her bed, letting her mind settle. She needed a plan, a way to get this divorce over with, fast. 

Whether her parents approved didn’t matter to her. She’d made up her mind, and no one was going to stop her. 

Her thoughts were interrupted by the sudden ring of her phone. She glanced at the screen and frowned. It was Arthur 

again. 

Without hesitation, Charlotte declined the call. But he was persistent, dialing her back immediately. 

Her irritation flared, and with it came a nagging sense of unease. Answering on the third ring, she snapped, “What now?” 

Arthur’s deep, magnetic voice came through the line, laced with icy authority. “Julius has a fever. Come to Harrison 

Villa.” 

The words struck Charlotte like a punch to the chest, and for a moment, she couldn’t breathe. Her body moved on instinct. She swung her legs off the bed, already halfway to the door. 

But then she stopped. 

She had been pretending to have amnesia, 

to have forgotten her feelings for Julius. To her current self, he was supposed to be just another child, a stranger. 

Clenching her fists, she forced herself to stay calm. “What good would it do if I came? Don’t you have doctors at the house?” 

“Charlotte.” His voice was sharper now, colder, cutting through her defenses. “You’re his mother. He’s sick, and he needs you.” 

Her chest tightened painfully, like an iron grip squeezing her heart. 

She had tried so hard to tell herself to let go. But Julius was her child, the one she had cherished more than her own life. Even if he had grown distant, he was still her precious boy. 

Closing her eyes, she swallowed her emotions. “I don’t even remember how to take care of him anymore…” 

“Just come,” Arthur said, his tone brooking no argument. Then the line went dead. 

Charlotte sat frozen for a moment, 

gripping the phone tightly. Her face had gone pale, but her resolve kicked in. She quickly changed into fresh clothes and headed downstairs. 

The Hardwick Villa was eerily quiet. She slipped into the garage, selected one of James‘ cars, and sped off into the night. 

The city streets were deserted, the silence of the late hour broken only by the hum of her car. She drove like a woman 

possessed, arriving at the imposing gates of the Harrison Villa in record time. 

Taking a deep breath, she steadied herself before stepping out of the car. 

Charlotte thought, “Whatever is waiting inside, I can’t afford to falter.” 

She got out of the car and quickly regained her composure, pressing the doorbell. Moments later, the heavy black–and–gold gate creaked open, and she stepped inside. 

However, as soon as she entered, she noticed a white car parked in front of the villa. It looked unfamiliar, unlike the usual cars the Harrison family drove.
