The room went dead silent. Not just Sarah, but even Camille- who’d been putting on that whole “oh, I’m so sick” act–froze in shock. 

“Arthur, what are you talking about?” Camille rushed to smooth things over. “Of course, I accept her. She might not be my biological daughter, but she’s still my daughter. She’s still a Hardwick, which makes you part of the Hardwick family, too.” 

Arthur’s cold gaze settled on her face. “Done with the sick act?” 

Everyone knew she’d been faking, but having it called out so bluntly made Camille want to crawl under a rock. 

“I really wasn’t feeling well earlier,” Camille stammered, forcing an awkward laugh. “But I’m much better now, so much better.” 

“Great. Then, apologize to her.” Arthur’s voice turned ice–cold, sending chills through the room. The air seemed to have frozen into a layer of frost. 

Even though Camille was an elder, his commanding presence made her knees weak. 

“Excuse me?” Camille stared at him in disbelief, jabbing a finger toward Charlotte. “Apologize to her? I’m her mother. Since when do mothers apologize to their kids?

“Besides, I didn’t say anything wrong. She humiliated me. Nobody showed up to the family reunion banquet I planned. Don’t I have the right to call her out on that?”

“You’ve got it all wrong.” Arthur gave her an icy stare. “Those guests were supposed to come here, but I sent them last–minute invitations. What choice do you think they made?” 

Camille’s eyes went wide with disbelief. This couldn’t be happening. 

Arthur had sent out invitations for everyone to attend the opening of Charlotte’s studio. 

In Lanceser, the Harrison family ruled supreme. Who in their 

right mind would skip an invitation from the Harrisons just to attend some small–time family reunion banquet at Hardwick Villa? 

Nobody was that stupid. 

Camille’s lips trembled, but she couldn’t get a single word out. 

“Now that you know the truth, are you going to yell at me, too? Got any more choice words?” Arthur asked with a sardonic smile. 

“Oh no, Arthur, I would never. I just… I had no idea it would turn out like this,” Camille stammered, her previous arrogance completely gone. “It’s all Charlotte’s fault. She never told me about her opening. If she had, I would’ve picked a different date.”

“If you don’t even dare yell at me, what makes you think you can talk trash about my wife?” Arthur’s smile vanished, his eyes turning cold and deadly. His overwhelming presence made Camille’s face drain of color. 

“Lottie, I was wrong.” Camille quickly turned to Charlotte, desperate to apologize. “I just lost my temper. I shouldn’t have said those things. Please don’t be mad at me, okay?” 

She reached out to take Charlotte’s hand, just like she always did. Ever since Charlotte was little, a bit of sweet–talking was all it took to get her to behave. That was how Camille had always managed to control her. 

But this time, Charlotte pulled away, her clear eyes turning cold as she stared at her mother. “Let’s get everything out in the open today. Now that you’ve found your real daughter, I’m not a Hardwick anymore. I have nothing to do with any of you.” 

“Charlotte, what nonsense are you talking about?” James finally showed up, stepping out with an exaggerated serious expression, like he was scolding a kid throwing a tantrum. 

He continued, “Your mom just spoke without thinking because she was upset. She already apologized, so let’s put this behind us. Now that everyone’s here let’s have a nice family dinner. Your friends are here too. Don’t make a scene in front of them.”
