Chapter 152
John was taken aback. “Mr. Zachman, y
, you’re not planning to let Ms. Salford know that you’re the one who saved her?
“She doesn’t want me to stay in Longfield. If she finds out I haven’t left, it’ll upsether, It’s better to let her think I’m already gone,” Wren replied, glancing back at Clara.
John frowned, puzzled “Mr. Zachman, forgive me for speaking out of turn, but how can there belasting grudges within a family? I don’t know what happened between you and Ms. Salford, but I can tell you care about her a lot. You risked your life for her. I believe if Ms. Salford knew that, she wouldn’t stay mad at you.
“Besides, I think she still cares about you deep down. She may have said she wanted to kick you out, but that night, when it was pouring rain, didn’t she let you come inside, worried you had nowhere to stay?
“To me, Ms. Salford seems like someone who’s sharp–tongued but soft–hearted. If there’s any misunderstanding or distance between you two, why not use this opportunity to resolve it? I’m sure if Ms. Salford knew everything you’ve done for her, she’d be moved and wouldn’thold a grudge anymore!!
Wren’s gaze darkened. If Cara knew everything he had done, she would undoubtedly forgive him. But forgiveness wasn’t what he wanted.
It wasn’t enough for Clara to stop being angry. He wanted her to love him again, just as she had before. He didn’t want their relationship to regress to something as simple and distant as family
Deep down, Wren understood better than anyone that even after everything, Clara didn’t hate him. She had simply withdrawn, refusing to show him even a sliver of the affection she once had
This was harder for him to accept than hatred. It wasn’t something he could change with actions or how much he sacrificed.
“Do as I say. And let me know immediately if you find anything from the investigation,” Wren said firmly
Seeing Wren’s insistence, John knew better than to press further
“Yes, Mr. Zachman. I’ll keep watch over Ms. Salford tonight if you’d like. You don’t look so well. Why not go back and get some rest?”
“No need. You can head home and rest.”
As Wren finished speaking, a knock sounded at the door. He gestured for John to leave first before walking over to open it.
Standing at the door was the nurse, holding a hairdryer and a towel John gave a small nod and left quietly.
Wren took the items from the nurse, thanking her. After a brief pause, he gently closed the door and stepped outside with her.
“Is there something else?”
“There’s one more thing I need your help with. When my sister wakes up, I want you to tell her that it was the man from earlier who happened to pass by and saved her. Don’t mention that I’m here,” Wren said with a lowered tone.
