“Ewant to know if this has anything to do with you! 

When’s scrutinizing gare fixed on Alexander. If the danger China faced wasn’t something she had invited herself, then it was highly likely that the people around her had dragged her into it. 

Given Alexander’s unique background, there was always the possibility, however slim, that he could be the cause 

Even if it was a one–in ten thousand chance, Wren knew he had to eradicate any potential threat to Clara’s life. Before leaving Larkston, he had to ensure that no similar incidents would occur while she remained here. 

Alexander froze for a couple of seconds before realizing t 

ng that Wren suspected he had something to do with Clara falling into the water earlier that day. 

Perhaps Wren’s hostility wasn’t solely because of this. 

Others might not see it, but Alexander had felt Wren’s animosity toward him from their very first meeting 

As a man himself, how could he not understand what Wren’s behavior implied? 

What he hadn’t expected, though, was that Wren would harbor such feelings for someone who was practically his own sister–someone he had practically raised. 

“Mr. Zachman, you’ve investicated my background and should know all about me by now. Whether have ulterior motives toward Clara or if I had anything to do with what happened today, you should already have your answer. 

Alexander suddenly stepped closer, his voice dropping to a mocking whisper, “But you, Wren, do you see her as your sister, or is there something more? 

Wren’s pupils contracted as his fists clenched tightly 

Alexander noticed the change in his expression and chuckled. “You left your engagement banquet and came all the way here for her I imagine it was because you planned to take her back and keep her under your control 

“But you miscalculated. You didn’t expect her to refuse to go back with you. And as the Zachman family heir, it’s not like you can stay in this place forever just for her. 

“So tell me, Wren, is your hostility toward me driven by possessiveness and insecurity, or are you simply afraid she’ll choose someone else over you would know the answer 

to that better than anyone. 

“Even if you see her as your possession, she doesn’t belong to you. Your hostility and suspicion toward me are completely unnecessary. I have no interest in meddling with whatever is going on between the two of you. So, Wren, stay out of my personal matters.” 

By the time Alexander finished speaking, his expression had tumed ice–cold, his sharp gaze cutting into Wren. The tension between them was suffocating, like the calm before an explosion. 

Wren’s fists tightened further, his knuckles cracking audibly as his emotions churned uncontrollably. 

Ever since discovering that incident, he had been trying to suppress his feelings for Clara. He had masked them for so long that no one had ever noticed.
