We glared at each other for a few minutes before I finally pulled away. I looked away from him, trying my hardest to hide my tears.
"You didn't cheat willingly."
My eyes widened as my head snapped back towards him, "What?" I choked.
He narrowed his eyes, "I'm no fool, Scarlett."
"I did cheat willingly," I stated, tipping my chin up.
"Then why wasn't I enough?"
My mask broke as I heard the pain laced through that question, twisting my heart in uncomfortable ways. I swallowed, my eyes didn't leave his as he continued staring at me. I wanted to tell him everything, that he was enough, that every inch of him was enough. But I couldn't, many people know my father in this company, if he somehow found out I told him...
I don't want to eve think of consequences.
"I just...fell out of love, I guess," I whispered.
He furrowed his eyebrows, "What did I do wrong?"
I closed my eyes, willing myself to remain cold. "I don't have time for this, neither do you. What is my first task?"
He stared at me for a moment before that cold expression returned, much to my relief. "You are to schedule a meeting with Jason Reeds tomorrow at twelve. If he cannot make it at that time, then tell him the deal is off. I don't want to waste my breath convincing him. Also, I need you to call the most famous restaurant and make reservations for two. It's my girlfriend's birthday tomorrow."
I stiffened at the mention of his girlfriend, earning a knowing look from him. I flashed him a glare, annoyed by his smug expression. He knew I still had feelings for him and he was going to make me pay for that night. I silently nodded, holding back my tears still.
"I'm going to find out why you cheated, Scarlett," he stated.
I frowned at him, "Please don't."
"And why not?"
I only shook my head at him, knowing I still can't even tell him a little bit. "Just...don't," I whispered.
"Are you in danger?" He asked, completely serious.
I hadn't expected this, seeing him in all of his glory. After our divorce he had made my life a living hell, by kicking me out, cutting me off, leaving me poor basically. I was lucky that I had managed to escape to my cousin's before my father found me. I hated him, but I also loved him. That is what made me hate him even more.
I grabbed my stuff and walked out, already knowing where my office was.
"Did you make those reservations for my girl and I?" He asked, walking into my office.
I nodded, "Yes, sir."
He frowned, "Don't call me sir."
"Fine."
"You have no right to be upset about this. We are no longer together and-
"I know, Gabriel. I know you no longer love me, I know we hate each other, I know I only caused you pain and misery during our marriage. Which is why I'm glad you are happy with your current girlfriend," I said, cutting him off.
"Is that why you were crying?"
