What Jeremy and Krystal discussed was nothing urgent. It was just random updates from the ward, but his refusal was clear.

Melody curled her fingers and stood there awkwardly.

Just then, Denvin came home. He carried a file, his jacket unbuttoned and his shirt collar loose, looking casual.

He gave Melody a passing look but didn't greet her. Walking by, he asked Laura, "Where's Dad?"

Laura snorted. "Why bother asking? Someone came home just to dump trouble on him. He's buried in the study."

She shot Melody a pointed glance.

Melody lowered her head, said nothing, and left.

Denvin arched a brow and teased Laura, "Why are you angry? Careful, or you will get wrinkles."

Laura glared. Then, he carried the file into the study.

Jeremy paused and told Krystal, "I'm heading back to the hospital."

Krystal nodded and got up as well since they both had another shift tonight.

He asked, "Dad, what's wrong?"

Seeing his son, Andrew masked his face, rubbed his brow, and said wearily, "It's nothing. The Foundation's swamped lately. Gives me headaches."
