Chapter 31
Jeremy paused and lifted his gare to Melody
Melody had no idea what Caleb had just said, but when her eyes met Jeremy’s. fists instinctively tightened.
She and Caleb had come upstairs because she was afraid to stay alone downstairs, especially after nearly crashing into that hospital bed.
At least the office Telt sater.
Jeremy’s face remained impassive as he looked at her. “She came with me from the emergency room. Tassumed she followed me up.”
He had thought that she’d been right behind him the entire time, so he never even tumed around to check. This meant that he had no idea she’d almost gotten hurt. Melody lowered her head, neither looking at him not trying to decipher the meaning of his words
Her mind was quiet now. She could shut everyone out if she wanted.
The patient was a retired government official, and the higher–up had taken a special interest in his case. The meeting dragged on for hours as they deliberated the best course of treatment…
Meanwhile, Melody sat in a comer, careful not to disturb anyone. It wasn’t until evening that the meeting finally wrapped up.
As everyone dispersed, she stood up to leave as well.
Caleb smiled and waved at her.
Melody was grateful to him. If he hadn’t brought her up, she would’ve been stuck downstairs all afternoon.
Just then, a shadow loomed over her.
There, Jeremy stood before her, his sharp features tinged with an icy seriousness. His brows were furrowed as he held a stack of documents.
It was a clear sign that he was dealing with something difficult.
Melody barsitated, and her fingers hovered over her phone’s keyboard.
She wanted to type something, but upon looking at his expression, she figured he probably wasn’t in the mood to read it.
Then, she slowly lowered her hand
Krystal, who had just finished packing up, glanced at her and said, “Why didn’t you go home earlier, considering your current state?”
Melody felt uneasy. She understood wit Krystal meant but had no idea how to explain herself.
She lifted her eyes to Jeremy just as he lowered his gaze. Their eyes met for a fleeting moment before he said, “Let’s go.”
So, quietly followed him to the car and got in.
Naturally, Krystal was there too. She turned back from the passenger seat to glance at Melody.
Hei tour was light as she asked Jeremy, “Do you always have to split your attention to take care of her every time this happens?” Jeremy looked at the rearview mirror.
Mandy was seated in the back, her hands resting neatly on her lap.
around her delicate face. The sight of this
Her dress lung slightly loose on her frame, and the hair she had tied up had come undone, with strands falling messily and nude her look even more fragile.
