"Money?" 

Her story was the same as before. 

Tears filled her eyes as she pleaded.

"Sophia, if you don't help me, the company will press charges. I'll go to jail!" 

"Once my trust fund unlocks next month, I'll pay you back, I swear!" 

She was practically on her knees begging. 

I leaned back in my chair and smirked. 

"Sure. I'll lend you the money." 

"But first, answer one question." 

Maybe it was the sharpness in my tone, or maybe she just had a guilty conscience. 

She froze.

"Wh-what question?" 

I smiled and slid my phone across the table. 

"Take a look at this first." 

Jessica glanced at the screen, and her face went pale. 

"Who took this? Sophia, you have to believe me!"

"Benjamin and I just ran into each other. It's not what it looks like!" 

I stared her down, my smile widening. 

I didn't say a word. 

But she kept talking, digging herself deeper. 

It took her a second to realize what she'd done. 

When it hit her, her face turned ghostly white. 

I tapped my fingers on the table.

"Let me guess. When did you two start hooking up?" 

"Was it when Benjamin's mom got sick, and you went to see her for me?" 

Jessica froze. 

I leaned closer, my voice icy.
