“The dog in this backyard, to be exact!”

Matthew tossed the bodyguard aside. As he did so, Damon noticed Matthew’s expression. He was taken aback. It seemed that Matthew was heartbroken, even if the man himself didn’t realize it.

Damon rushed over in a bid to stop Matthew, but Matthew was even faster. By then, Matthew had already gotten into his car and driven off. In a blink of an eye, he was gone.

Matthew made his way to the hospital Wilhelmina was in. As he drove, he received a phone call from her. She told him that she had just gotten out of the emergency room, and that she was in enormous pain due to her severe injuries.

Had this been the past, Matthew would have been heartbroken to hear about that. Now, though, it just seemed like mockery. Wilhelmina was the orchestrator for this farce, and she had the gall to whine about her pain. But would that take away Willow’s pain? Willow had lost a finger and was now crippled for life. And today, she got hurt again. How much pain was Willow in now?

Matthew never thought that he would come to hate the woman that he loved.

When he arrived at the hospital, Wilhelmina had already been warded in a VIP room. She was covered in bandages, making for a pitiful sight.

Wilhelmina seemed fragile as Matthew entered her room. She called out to him weakly, “Matt…” Tears rolled down her face before she could finish. “I’m so sad, Matt..”

However, she wasn’t enveloped in a warm hug, like she thought she would be. Wilhelmina looked up and glanced at Matthew. She used to see love and adoration in his eyes. This time, all she found was indifference.

Wilhelmina was shocked, but she made herself look even more hurt and pitiful. “That wasn’t an accident at all, Matt! I darted out of the way, but that driver still deliberately ran over me! He wanted me dead!

“Did you find him, Matt? When you do, ask him why he did that. I’ve never crossed paths with him, so why did he want to kill me?”

“You’re overthinking it, Willa.” Matthew finally returned to using ‘Willa“. “That driver said that he did it on purpose. Someone ordered him to kill you!”
