“Willow, have you abandoned your sense of propriety, integrity, and honor? Are you throwing away your dignity? 

Zayn’s words grew more offensive. Willow could no longer tolerate it. “Zayn, you’re sick! 

“There is nothing between Mr. Nightingale and L. We are innocent. Even if there was something between us, it’s still none of your business!” 

“Willow, you are my woman!” Zayn sounded like a beast backed into a comer. His rage was tinged with panicked possessiveness. 

“Your woman?” Willow sneered. “Huh! Mr. Carter, are you joking? 

“What gives you the right to say that? Is it because you’re my ex–boyfriend or my ex–husband? Or because you’re Skyler’s man, the father of her deceased child? 

“Mr. Carter, I am not your woman. I don’t know how many times I have to say it for you to understand. There is nothing between us anymore! 

“Marriage is for life and death, and in sickness and death. You and I have nothing like that with each other anymore!” 

What right did Zayn have? 

Hearing Willow’s blunt and decisive words, Zayn suddenly lost his strength. He could no longer remain enraged. 

Willow had no desire to continue arguing with him there. She left money to pay the bill, turned around, and staggered out of the restaurant 

The biting wind gnawed at her face, and Willow instinctively wiped her face. 

She found it ironic. The wind should have dried her face, but instead, it had moistened it. She didn’t want to admit it, but the truth was, she had been crying 

She felt disgusted by her weakness but tears were hard to control Once they started, it was like a floodgate had opened, impossible to be stopped. 

Maybe she felt vulnerable tonight. Because this place held too many beautiful memories of her and Zayn. The memory of him was too perfect, while in reality, Zayn was too cruel, 

His sudden appearance had completely overwhelmed her. 

Blinding headlights flashed in her face, and Willow instinctively shielded her eyes. The car suddenly accelerated, heading straight for her. As the Audi A8 closed in, Willow saw the face of the driver–it was Wilhelmina 

Zayn rushed forward, grabbing Willow and rolling out of the way. They managed to dodge it, but the speeding Audi A8 st hit him. His quick reflexes meant he wasn’t badly hurt though his arm throbbed in pain. Willow remained completely unharmed in his embrace. 

Wilhelmina had been in a foul mood and was driving aimlessly. She unexpectedly encountered Willow, whom she despised. A surge of hatred made her want to run over Willow, to erase her from existence. 

She never anticipated Zayn to barge out and save Willow. 

Running into Willow tonight was an accident, and Wilhelmina hadn’t prepared any disguise. She wasn’t sure if Zayn had seen her face, but she knew if she stayed, she wouldn’t escape tonight.
