Willow was startled by Isabella’s actions. She knew Isabella and Cillian treated Nicola badly. But she never expected Isabella to be so violent. Isabella would attack with whatever she could grab.

How much had Nicola suffered behind Willow’s back?

Willow heard what Isabella had just said, but it was too late to pull Isabella away. Fearing for Nicola’s unborn child, Willow hurried over and tightly shielded Nicola’s belly, taking the blow herself.

“Willow, are you okay?” When Nicola saw Willow being hit, she felt a pain worse than if it had happened to herself. She anxiously held onto Willow. Willow, does it hurt? Let me take you to the hospital!”

“Get lost! I’m teaching my daughter–in–law a lesson. Don’t you butt in! If you dare, I’ll hit you too! Isabella stood akimbo, spitting contempt and looking extremely arrogant.

“Nicola came here tonight to see me! Who gave you the right to throw dirt on her randomly?” Steadying herself, Willow shielded Nicola behind her. She rebuked Isabella, “Even if Nicola is your daughter–in–law, you have no right to treat her this way!”

“Bah!” Isabella’s eyes were filled with contempt as she glared at Nicola. “You’re a slut who would cuckold my son. I’ll treat her however I want!

“She won’t let my son touch her, but she’s carrying another man’s child. How is my son supposed to show his face anywhere? Since she has no shame and fools around, she has to pay the price!

“Get over here!”

Willow subconsciously grabbed Nicola’s hand. She did not want her to go to Isabella, but Nicola pried Willow’s hand away.

Nicola shook her head gently at Willow. “You should go back I can’t neglect my grandmother!”

Willow didn’t want Nicola to go back with Isabella and suffer. She knew the child in Nicola’s belly was likely Silas‘. She loved Silas so much. Surely she wouldn’t want to lose this child.

“Willow, don’t worry. I’ll take care of myself.” Nicola swallowed the lump in her throat and whispered to Willow, “You take care of yourself too. We’ll both be okay. The road ahead is still long!”

After saying this, Nicola walked over to Isabella’s side. Isabella grabbed a fistful of Nicola’s hair and stalked off, berating her as she dragged her along. Watching Nicola being bullied by this harridan, tears silently slid down Willow’s cheeks. They were like tiny leaves caught in the wind, blown away by forces beyond their control.
